Oscar Buzz

Is it just me or is this precisely the kind of film that looks like it will be one of those big hitters at the Oscars? An engaging DRAMA, with AMERICAN themes, a strong lead performance and a happy message. Seems to fit the bill?

Buzz? Since when does a film need to be really popular to get nominations? If films like Winter's Bone can get a nomination so can this.

I think it will take home at least one. Matt should get a best Actor nod, but I do believe Michael Jordan is taking that one for Fruitvale Station

I'm thinking if it gets nominated for anything it's going to be cinematography, directing, editing, best original screenplay and best picture. The acting was great but none was Oscar material. I'll be surprised if it doesn't at least get a nomination for screenplay because this was one hell of a lot more original then last years "Django Unchained". I guess we'll just have to wait until February to see which way the academy votes.

He'll prob get nominated for Dallas Buyers Club and Wolf of Wall Street before this. By the end of this year McConaughey is gonna put himself on the list of best actors in hollywood.

I'm not saying it will happen, but I think McConaughey has a chance at an Oscar nomination.

I agree on the Seven Psychopaths thing. I just thought that it seems like the kind of thing which could get a few awards, but yeah, it's very early in the year and if this is remebered until then I'll be surprised.

I have to disagree with you there. This film is actually one of those really big successes that don't receive much accolades from those really big award shows but deserve to. This film is now up there with The Raid and Seven Psychopaths.

The Independent Spirit Awards will be all over it. Other than that, I can't see much awards love.

I think it'll get nominated for Best Picture and Actor. They already snubbed Jeff once they cant do it again twice in a row.

The reviews are ridiculously positive, so there's a shot. Not a ton of buzz, though, and it's really early in the season. Take Shelter was also a brilliant film that got great reviews, but didn't translate into a lot of attention from major awards (although it got attention from many smaller parties).

It won't get any nominations. I don't think that because of my opinion, but because it's too early in the year and people don't love it enough. Screenplay at best.
