David Lynch is Oddly Secretive About His New "EMPIRE"
by Scott Weinberg | May 12, 2005
Discuss Article
Notoriously offbeat filmmaker David Lynch ("Mulholland Dr.") has apparently been working on his next film ... for the past two years! "INLAND EMPIRE" (yes, in all caps) will star Laura Dern ("Jurassic Park"), Harry Dean Stanton ("Escape from New York"), Jeremy Irons ("Dead Ringers"), Justin Theroux ("Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle"), and a few others whom Lynch opts not to name.

StudioCanal is bankrolling the project, but the information pretty much dries up right there. Variety indicates that the film should be ready for next year's Cannes Film Festival, while Mr. Lynch is as vague as possible: ""It's about a woman in trouble, and it's a mystery, and that's about all I want to say about it."

don't you %&**$'in look at me!
Hopefully the enigmatically goofy Lynch will make a film that is slightly easier to follow than the frustratingly-confusing-yet-intriguingly-complex Mulholland Drive. I still think Blue Velvet is the best thing he's ever done, with Eraserhead, The Straight Story & The Elephant Man all closely following.

I just hope he will give us much to speculate and debate as he did with Mulholland Dr.

I Love Dune, and really enjoy his other works....problem is...I have NO CLUE what this movie is even nearly about. A woman in trouble and a mystery? Aside form Dune..sounds like all his movies...

Am currently in Cannes awaiting this puppy (and avoiding the Star Wars geeks). Anybody else in/near the Croisette online and ready to get strange?

Cannes, eh? You'll have to visit the Sin City board and let us know how it's received there.
