"Mummy 3" Prepares to Emerge From Its Tomb; Details Unravel

Once, twice, three times a "Mummy": ComingSoon.net reports that screenwriter Al Gough, who is co-writing the third installment in the "Mummy" series with Miles Millar, recently divulged a few storyline details to Sci Fi Wire. Turns out that Alex, the young son of the explorers played by Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz in the first two films, is all grown up and ready to battle the undead himself:

"We figured out a really good family story with Rick and Evie, and [their son] Alex is now grown up. So it's really interesting."

Looks like Junior is ready to have his own adventures.

If you're craving more Brendan Fraser at your local theater -- or are eager for Rachel Weisz to take a career detour into Unnecessary Sequelville -- you'll be excited to learn that, according to Gough, both actors are in talks to reprise their roles for the movie, slated for a summer 2008 release.

The second one improved on the first in a lot of ways. It was great fun. Hopefully it's third installment isn't garbage.

Dear God, I loved the first two, simply cannot wait for this. Both of them were GREAT.

1 was a decent flick. 2 was entertaining if nothing else, although The Scorpion King remains the absolute worst thing I've evr seen in a movie. It was like a bad N64 game graphic. If the script is good, I'm game for another one. Just make sure all special effects are up to standards.

I enjoyed both Mummy's and The Scorpion King, so, I can't wait. I think it's only fair that anything related to these Mummy films end with the characters that were in them from the beginning. So, it's awesome to hear that Brendan and Rachel will most likely be back. I hope they can talk Oded Fehr into returning.

Yeah I bet Oded Fehr is pretty busy...he'll be tought to get back...
But the other films were fun, so I hope they get everyone back....not the Brendan Frasier has been very busy either...Rachel Weiz is the only one invovled in this film with a current career.

Admittedly, the first Mummy is sort of fun. But Christ, Weisz has an Oscar now, and Fraser is...well, I guess he was in Crash and that won Oscars even if it was kinda poo-smelling. I at least don't want Weisz to lose her carefully built up career over another crappy popcorn movie.

First Weekend of May 2008?
I'm betting this will push Iron Man off of May 2nd, 2008.

If this is the worst thing ever, it still will not screw up Rachel Weisz's "carefully built up career." I mean come on, look at Catwoman, or Tomb Raider. Or Banditas. I think Weisz will be fine, regardless.

Is Billy Zane going to be in this one, as well?

What the hell are you talking about Praz, Billy Zane wasn't in the other movies, Arnold Vosloo played the mummy. I really enjoyed the first two, so I'd be happy to get another, as long as everyone comes back. Having the son be older and not a little kid, will definitely be an inprovement. The Scorpion King did suck though.
