Combining musical numbers with comedy, THE MUPPET SHOW centered on the efforts of Kermit the Frog and his team of performers to put on a weekly show, featuring both the onstage acts as well as the backstage problems. Each week a new guest star, among the most distinguished entertainers of the time, would appear to participate in some of the skits and assist Kermit in making order out of the backstage chaos. Although the humor of THE MUPPET SHOW was often more adult and occasionally risqué than the later Muppet endeavors, it was still appropriate for every member of the family. SEASON ONE contains all 24 episodes of the program's first year (the 1976-77 television season), and features guest stars who are still well-known today, such as Lena Horne, Peter Ustinov, Candice Bergen, Vincent Price, and many others. Reviews for The Muppet Show - Season One
Between the sketches, the laughs, the throw-away jokes, the gags, there’s so much to love here.
It’s nice to pop in these old shows from the first season – while the major Muppets were in their infancy. You see the characters as unrefined, before they became icons.
If you ever loved The Muppets, this is the DVD you want for Christmas, if you can wait that long.
