This splashy, colorful musical biopic of the life of songwriter Paul Dresser is based on the biography written by Dresser's novelist brother Theodore Dreiser. A restless youth, Paul (Victor Mature) leaves his Indiana home early on, seeking his fortune in late 19th century New York. He finds success as a tunesmith, penning the film's title song in honor of gorgeous musical-comedy star Sally Elliot (Rita Hayworth, voice dubbed by Nan Wynn).
