Consensus: Though it sometimes feels like a television sitcom, My Big Fat Greek Wedding is good-hearted and lovable.

Still unmarried at 30-years-old, she works at Dancing Zorba’s, the Greek restaurant owned by her parents, Gus (MICHAEL CONSTANTINE) and Maria (LAINIE KAZAN) and smells like garlic bread. Vowing that she’d rather stab herself in the eye with a red-hot poker than work in the restaurant for the rest of her life, Toula is ready for a change. Unfortunately, the rest of her family is not. After taking a job at her aunt’s travel agency, she falls in love with Ian Miller (JOHN CORBETT), a high school teacher who is tall, handsome and definitely not Greek. Toula isn’t sure which will be more upsetting to her old-fashioned father, that Ian is a Xeno (foreigner) or that he’s a vegetarian. But none of it matters once he asks her to marry him. Toula knows that if he can pass muster with her crazy relatives and get baptized in the Greek Orthodox Church...their big fat Greek wedding, including one powder blue limousine, two ice sculptures and ten bridesmaids in turquoise dresses, will be a piece of cake, five layers high with a plastic staircase and a fountain of champagne. -- © 2002 IFC Films [More]

Reviews for My Big Fat Greek Wedding
Although films of this flavor depend primarily on their comic timing to win over an audience, director Joel Zwick finds other outlets of brilliance...
When Vardalos tries to pass one-joke stereotypes and situations as revelatory characterizations and experiences, it simply doesn’t achieve anything noteworthy.
Moderadamente divertida, se gana verla, al menos en video, quizá con pitas en vez de pizzas..
My Big Fat Greek Wedding uses stereotypes in a delightful blend of sweet romance and lovingly dished out humor.
There is nothing subtle or original about this film, but it is well-intentioned and cute.
Warm, familiar, not a sharp edge in sight, this movie is built to please.
Twist open the Ouzo! It’s time to let your hair down – Greek style. A vibrant whirlwind of love, family and all that goes with it, My Big Fat Greek Wedding is a non-stop funny feast of warmth, colour and cringe.
We can see the wheels turning, and we might resent it sometimes, but this is still a nice little picture, made by bright and friendly souls with a lot of good cheer.
Only in the movies can Joey Fatone and Andrea Martin engage in Hellenic dance.
There isn't enough drama to take My Big Greek Wedding out of TV movie territory.
