"My Sweet Little Village" is Oscar-winning director Jirí Menzel's ironic vision of life in a farmers co-op in socialist Czechoslovakia. The story focuses on Otík, a bumbling trucker's assistant who amongst other debacles is responsible for running the truck into a gatepost. His boss, Pávek, demands that Otík be transferred by the start of next season. But in a change of heart Pávek comes to his friend's aid when a crooked politician decides that Otík's house would make an excellent summer cottage -- and arranges to transfer Otík to the big city.
