I've never ever really wanted to watch this film. I heard it was really good though, and decieded to give this film a shot. I had no idea what to expect in this film. I was never ever gonna think I was gonna see what I saw at all.
Well, I just got to say that film had some really food acting. the cast showed quite a good range of emotion. They conveyed thier wide range of emotions with poise and skill.
Julia Roberts who played a foul-mouthed female pizza server who feels she will be doing nothing but serving pizza for the rest of her life(as her boss says"The best pizza",who also wants to go after a rich guy, while her friend Katherine(played by Annabeth Gish)is bound for Yale in the upcoming fall semester.
This is a film I like to call an "Indie" film. Well, cause it has limited fanfare, is different, and conveys on small town life, genuime romance, and normally is a feel-good movie, or a total depressing letdown. Let me tell you that this was a feel-good film.
Can I ask a a question? Who ever knew Julia Roberts was so good at pool? I guess I know never to challenge her at a game of pool. I suck anyways, so I guess it wouldn't really matter anyways.
Mystic Pizza is directed, well I rather say beautifully shot, and well edited. I think that this director(Donald Petrie) knew what he was doing. he came in with a plan. A game plan. He executed that game plan perfectly. I can tell you that any faults this film may have aren't from the director, or the great acting to say the least.
Now while the screenplay seems rather impressive, you can sense that this film wants to be like every other predictable romance out there. It isn't though. It is so well acted, that they make you belive in it's story. It's message of free-spirit, and unrequited love, atleast that's what I think it was trying to convey.
Now you also went to sense chemistry in the romance between Julia and the guy she is attracted to. You really do sense the love they have for each other. The attraction is most definately there. Oh, sure for a film I never really wanted to watch, I got alot to say. Well, it was enganging, and I got into it. I liked it.
Maybe this is just one of thos touchy-feely, cheesy romance movies only select moviegoers can enjoy. I don't know, I would agree it is rather bit of a female movie, but unlike "The Notebook", it isn't all romance, sex, and fairytale love. It had every thing makes a movie ring sound. Seem belivebale and realilistic. It really exceeded my expectations.
" Fantastic performances, in a beautifully shot film, turn this seemingly predictable romance script into a movie that seems all to real and believable."
Trust me on this one. Watch it with a loved one. Watch it when your in a bad mood. It will lift your spirit high. Hey you never know what could be making everyone enjoy this film. Could it be what they put in the sauce?
