Critic Review - Chicago Reader

While the low comedy is undeniably effective, the film leaves behind a bad taste of snobbery and petty meanness.

Not like Animal House? I feel very sorry for you if you can't appreciate possibly the funniest comedy of all time and the standard to which every other subsequent college movie sets their bar. You must live a very humorless life.

You have now given a bad review to Animal House and Empire Strikes Back. What qualifies someone to be a critic? You are no doubt one of those so called critics that needs to get a time machine and go back to the 40's so you can watch Gone With the Wind and Citizen Kane over and over again. That way you will be happy and we won't have to read you. Thanks for reading have a nice day.

You my dear sir are the zenith of affective snobbery. This film is the quintessential coming of age movie. Did you not ever experience this in your life?
Please leave the commentary to those more qualified.
Thank you!!

Did you ever experience this in your life? If Animal House in any way resembled your college experience, [offensive content censored]. Greek Life represents EVERYTHING wrong with college.

This review is actually more positive then negative. It should be "fresh", not
"rotten".

On Metacritic (another movie review website), this same review from Dave Kehr is regarded as a positive one (70 out of 100). My source:

This film was not funny, no National Lampoon film is.
I have a varied taste in film from ; The Night Porter, The bicycle thief, Metropolis right up to Anchorman and Spinal tap.
I can appreciate good films, this film is overrated. `it is just not funny. The film seems instantly dated, with undeniably funny moments, but its just another Ramis written film, not as bad as his 'Bedazzled' but the same tone, pointless witticisms on a world he thinks i want to be part of , i dont my University life was far better.

athough i still liked animal house, and i could care less about Kehr's "reviews", i actually kinda see a little sense in his review this time. you have to admit, there wasn't really much going on in the movie, it was because of the comedy that it was as high as it was. i actually kinda forgive Kehr on this one, i actually understand how he could not like this film, however, he needs a little...talking to... about his reviews on classics like Alien, Raiders of the Lost Ark, Empire Strikes Back, etc.
