Nicolas Cage Joins The Vanished
Star signs on for Abu-Assad's studio debut.
Focus Features has arranged for Nicolas Cage to join the ranks of The Vanished.
Don't get excited, Cage-haters -- this isn't an allusion to some sort of forced exile for the actor's performances in The Wicker Man, Snake Eyes, or Gone in 60 Seconds; rather, it's the title of his next starring vehicle. Variety reports that Cage has signed on for the Hany Abu-Assad-directed feature, which the article summarizes as follows:
Thriller, penned by Larysa Kondracki and Eilis Kirwan, concerns a father who goes in search of his college-aged American-born Muslim son, who's missing overseas.
Before starting The Vanished in April, Cage will star in The Wrestler, which we discussed last week (and is apparently being directed by Darren Aronofsky). He'll next be seen in National Treasure: Book of Secrets, opening December 21.

on Oct 17 2007 06:09 AM Nic Cage is becomming a beacon to alert us all of bad movies. Hopefully Aronofsky can ruin Cage's streak of bad movies. National Treasure is on my list of dumbest movies ever released to theatre in recent years next to The Day After Tomorrow, Independence Day, and Battlefield Earth. (Reply to this) |

I enjoyed Day After Tomorrow and Independence Day but I do agree that both were pretty dumb. Battlefield Earth was a torture to watch. But the dumbest movie ever released to theater in recent years has to be Borat. (Reply to this) |

on Oct 17 2007 12:31 PM One Hour Photo was good. I agree about the Village. Cage used to make great movies. It seems he's now too focused on a paycheck rather than quality. The good news is this is a Focus Features film...which I have yet to see a bad Focus Feature film. Looks like he's attempting to get *some* sort of credibility back to his name with films like this, Weatherman and Lord of War (both of which I thought were quite good.) (Reply to this) |
