Relatively inoffensive and relentlessly mediocre.

At 25, Josie Geller is the youngest copy editor at the Chicago Sun-Times, and the obvious choice to go undercover on a story about what the "cool kids" of high school are up to. A dorky teen dubbed "Grossie Josie" the first time around, this time Josie is required to make friends with the popular kids in order to deliver on her assignment. Unfortunately, now that Josie has come into her own as an intelligent young woman with a career and a brain in her head, those aren't the people she's interested in; as she begins to develop feelings for a teacher she's been ordered to portray badly, things start to get really complicated! Will Josie redeem herself from the mistakes she made in her high school years, or will she find herself repeating them all over again? [More]

Reviews for Never Been Kissed
When the story begins to turn toward Josie's growing relationship with her attractive English teacher, Sam Coulson (Michael Vartan), the movie begins to unravel because it's dealing with a subject that is above its grasp.
While Never Been Kissed belongs heart and soul to Barrymore, Sobieski's natural poise and assurance reminds us that her own prime time is not so very far away.
Never Been Kissed is a good romantic comedy, thanks mainly to Drew Barrymore's fabulous performance as a clumsy reporter trying to fit in as an undercover high school student.
For fans of flicks about hardened journalists, this one may be too much a puff piece, but for the Friday night date crowd, it scans just fine.
It has some warm and humorous spots, but not enough to overcome its many obstacles.
...here is a film that is lighthearted and simple, but is made all the more appreciative because of Barrymore's presence...
Barrymore continues to grow as a comic actress, with solid support from Sobieski and Arquette, and the story has energy to spare.
The movie makes virtually every mistake in the book, including flagrantly violating the moral of their own story.
The film succeeds on the astonishing merits of its leading lady and her superior supporting cast.
If you're having a hard time imagining Drew Barrymore as a nerd, you must see this movie.
It's hard to suppress the beauty and charm of Drew Barrymore, but in allowing her to play an air-headed defective, Never Been Kissed manages to do this.
