Consensus: Has the same problems as the worst SNL movies: one-note characters and plots unreasonably stretched to feature length runtime.

Their biggest dream is to open their own club--the problem is they can't get into an existing one to see what it looks like. When two supermodels latch onto Steve and Doug thinking they've found the financial gravy train, it takes them some time to find out the truth about they state of the boys' bank accounts. Based on characters created by Kattan and Ferrell for a sketch on TV's Saturday Night Live. [More]

USA Today

Shun this witless showcase for the Saturday Night Live double act of Ferrell and Kattan.

Time Out

The director, John Fortenberry, whose background is in television, has probably done the best that can be done with characters who were never meant to speak.

Audiences are likely to be as repelled by this lame & lamer combo as their would-be dance partners, because underneath their shallow and clueless veneers is just more shallowness and cluelessness.

The Butabis (Will Ferrell as gangly Steve and Chris Kattan as weasely Doug) are especially dismal to watch for 80-something minutes, more like Pat than Wayne and Garth.

...those who manage to sit through all 81 minutes of it deserve a medal of bravery.

The rest of the film is on autopilot, with comic material that's spread thinner than the lone brain cell the Butabis share.

One Guy's Opinion

Even as a skit, Chris Kattan and Will Ferrell playing brothers Doug and Steve Butabi just doesn't work.

Anyone who is more than momentarily diverted by this motion picture has such a radically different idea from me of what constitutes 'entertainment' that we may never agree on anything.

making a skit 30 times as long does not necessarily mean you've made it 30 times as funny; despite scattered laughs 'Roxbury' feels overextended...

The Butabi brothers are uber-losers, and therein lies the joke. Between spoofs on nightclubs, personal trainers and hitting on hotties, the brothers bob their heads to the beat and make complete fools of themselves.
