Audience Reviews for Il Sole Anche di Notte (Night Sun) (The Sun Also Shines at Night)

Beautiful cinematography and scoring are just the icing on the cake in this underrated film. The second film this week I watched where someone tried unsuccessfully to drown themselves.

Natassia Kinsky and Charlotte Gainsbourgh are bright spots in this dark and disturbing saga. It was not difficult to understand what was happening in the story, but it was extremely hard to justify the actions. Seemingly arbitrary decisions that went against common sense made it difficult to become invested in the main character. A quite unsatisfying ending added to the disappointment. But with all that said, the movie's excellence in cinematography, music, acting, and direction made it hard to consider it a waste of time.

June 2010 - This is another one of the Taviani brothers' movies that leaves me more with nostalgia for movies of the past. The spiritual, humanist, new realistic and full of fantasy Italian movies of 50s and 60s that we miss so much. Unfortunately unlike some of the other movies of them, this one remains a bit scattered and different pieces of the movie don't match very well.
