New Line Planning New Nightmare on Elm Street?
by Jeff Giles | January 07, 2008
Blog Article | Discuss Article
Summary

We've had a rebooted Halloween, there's a new Friday the 13th on the horizon, and Screen Gems has devoted itself to exhuming every available '80s horror flick in its vaults. Left out of all the fun -- until now -- has been New Line's Nightmare on Elm Street franchise. Back to Article

Sure. There are no highly educated people who like horror. Guess this PhD horror fan and his large group of post-graduate educated friends are freaks.

Look, if you don't like horror, don't watch it. Why do you feel the need to troll message boards and attempt to start pointless arguments?

I think one gigantic horror movie with every cheeseball and not so cheeseball icon over the last thirty years, all stuck on an island and forced to dispose of one another, one by one.

We could have odds in Vegas and all bet based on who we think will win. Once the winner is crowned, he/she/it will be the ONLY one allowed to be in any type of picture for the next hundred years (and only ONE pisture every twenty-five years at most). By then we will all have moved on and won't be subject to this repetition anymore, anymore, anymore, anymore, anymore, anymore, anymore.......

This is going to be a disaster...the original has what is widely considered one of the best death sequences ever (plus is happened to a very young Johnny Depp to boot) yet one of the worst endings ever (Freddy turning into wisps and disappearing), but it's too classic to screw with. Halloween, I understand, because you never really got a feeling for why Michael was doing what he was doing, so the remake was great in that aspect. However, we all know why Freddy harvests souls, we know why he is the way he is, and we love it, bad puns and all (Now you're playing with POWER!). I really hope New Line puts a halt on this. It's bad enough Friday The 13th is getting ruined (underground tunnels? REALLY?! No Mrs. Voorhees?! WTF). Let's not take away Freddy.

Besides, no one can play Freddy better than Robert Englund...I dare you to find someone who can.

Easy there, baz050I. Elm Street 3 most assuredly does NOT "completely sucks ***." While it certainly can't compare with the original or New Nightmare, it still stands head and shoulders above the rest of the uninspired sequels and is an enjoyable entry in the series IMO.

This remake would be even more pointless than the recent Halloween remake. Rob Zombie perfectly showed how you can take an excellent movie (Carpenter's Halloween) and remake it into absolute garbage with the only exciting thing about it the abundance of nudity...NO MORE OF THAT PLEASE. Robert Englund has given Freddy Kruger a face so you'd have to be pretty desperate and go and start a new Freddy with a new face...

And suddenly the Texas Chainsaw Massacre remake comes to mind. How terrible was that...

Just another one of Hollywood's lack of ideas. Give me fresh material guys? BTW Checked out "Juno" and "Enchanted" over the weekend. Those are quality fresh films. Check 'em out!

The first movie is still a great classic horror movie. The others are just entertaining at best with little to no horror value. I just watched all of them again recently (except for Freddy vs. Jason), here's how I'd rank them

1: NoES #1 (with a bullet, great horror film)
2: NoES #3 (good creativity, was fun)
3: NoES #4 (more of the same as #3)
4: New Nightmare (didn't like the new Freddy, but it was a decent attempt at something new and mildly humorous)
5: NoES #5 (Dream Child is just ok, but only if you really like Freddy Films)
6: NoES #2 (Possesion angle was an ok idea, but the movie itself was bad and broke too many rules in regards to what Freddy can and can't do).
7: NoES #6 (Freddy's Dead was just bad, the script is terrible).

I liked what they did in Freddy Vs. Jason in regards to Freddy, they seemed to keep him in the dark more, which is what should be done with the character. I agree that any new NoES movie should keep Freddy in the dark and focus on keeping the character creepy and less of a joker. It would be a shame to not have Englund as Freddy, but the guy might be getting too old and out-of-shape, haven't seen the guy recently.

Robert Englund is Freddy Krueger and
Why don't we just get Rob Zombie to remake it? Everyone can be white trash and f*** can be said every other word.

Who's ignorant? Way to go bunching everyone into one basket. Hey, do all black people love fried chicken, and commit crimes? Don't ever forgt that your country has ridden on our coatails for years. This nation hands out more foreign aid to needy countries than anybody. We do what is necessary.

I'm not Canadian, but lets pretend I am. I'll point out my country isn't trillions of dollars in debt, have millions of children without health insurance or have hundreds of thousands of troops stuck in an endless war with no end in sight while piling up thousands of dead soldiers and tens of thousands of injured soldiers. And no Osama, over 6 years later and he's still running around thumbing his nose at America! How embarrassing!

No child healthcare? Typical liberal. I used to live close to Niagra Falls. Canadians used to and still do come over to the American side of the border to get treatment. Why? Because they had to wait in line to get it in Canada. Social Healthcare is failing. Get this straight. Governments do nothing better than the people can do themselves. That is what Americans pride themselves on. If you've ever seen what type of place Osama is hiding, you would understand it is not like going to knock on his front door by the way.

Canuck666 huh? Horror is for people not as smart as the average human eh?
Well why do you have 666 as a part of your user name you mouthbreather? Why don't you go write about your jock douche bag teenage comedy flicks somewhere else than where horror is being discussed!

i'd remake it with enguland. He is freedy you cant take that away or its not the same. They should start with freddy as human, cause he was just as creepy, when he was hunting little kids, then have the parents kill him and set him on fire then freddy makes a deal with the devil or something.

"Horror is what makes movies" is the stupidest comment I've read this week. The week is still young, but I feel confident that this comment will stand victorious, come Sunday.

Eldorado is just as stupid as canuck666, both are inbred hicks with no understanding of the real world. Oh yeah EVERYONE hates americans and all americans are afraid of the rest of the world...NOT. Hell i would rather live in the ghetto then live in Canada. So both of you just leave.

im sick of people refering to Halloween as an 80's slasher flick.. it was made in 78' dick bags! it was the original slasher movie, give it the credit it deserves.

as for friday the 13th remake (who cares.. all the friday movies are the same.)

Nightmare on elm street would be a terrible idea for a remake... i'd see it but it would probably suck ***..
