Movie Info

Alternative rock, the nervy younger brother of punk rock, was relegated to the margins of the record industry through the 1980s, but that changed dramatically in 1991, when Nevermind, the second album from a noisy Seattle trio called Nirvana, unexpectedly became one of the biggest sensations of the year. The album would eventually sell ten million copies in the United States alone, spearheading the grunge revolution, and changing conventional wisdom about what sort of music had the potential to

Audience Reviews for Nirvana: Nevermind

Nirvana's Nevermind was a musical revolution that brought Grunge rock to the masses and made Nirvana icons for a new generation. This documentary is a well crafted film that goes behind the scenes on the making of this classic album. Featuring interviews with the surviving members of the band and its producer, the film tells the story of the making of the record and features in depth, well conducted interviews with those involved in its creation. Nevermind was an album that was a well written album that featured some standout tracks, especially the iconic "Smells like Teen Spirit", which became a staple of the 90's. Although these Classic Albums documentaries are usually great, I found this one to be good, but it lacked a little bit due to the fact that it was shorter than the documentaries in the series. I wish that this one would have been longer, and it could really have been a highly memorable affair, considering the impact that Nevermind had. But it's short, and it feels that a few details are missing, and it really should have been a longer film. Despite this weakness, this one really is engaging for fans of the band, and does offer informative insight as well. The interviews are well done, and the material is handled well enough to keep the ball rolling, and keep you entertained from the moment the film starts. If you're in the mood for a good music documentary, you ought to give this one a shot, it's a revelatory film on this iconic record that cemented Grunge rock in the public mindset and made Nirvana legends in the process.

A gripping exploration of one of the most influential rock records ever recorded. Filled with rare footage and fascinating interviews, it's a treat for legitimate Nirvana fans. Those who focus entirely on this album or on the band's singles should skip the film.
