With only three full-length albums to their credit, 1990s grunge trio Nirvana revolutionized the face of modern rock by bringing punk, indie, and other forms of underground music into the mainstream (while dealing 1980s hair-metal a merciful and much-needed death). Though their 1989 debut BLEACH garnered a considerable cult following among college-radio types, it was their 1991 masterpiece NEVERMIND that earned them massive triple-platinum success--which they then attempted to undercut with their purposely alienating 1993 followup IN UTERO. This documentary offers a critical review of Nirvana's extraordinary, but sadly shortlived, recorded output through interviews with critics, musicologists, and those who knew frontman Kurt Cobain the best--including his grandfather Leland Cobain, former roommate Dave Reed, friend Alice Wheeler, and guitar teacher Warren Mason. INSIDE NIRVANA also features rare live performances of classic tracks such as "About a Girl," "All Apologies," "Smells Like Teen Spirit," "Negative Creep," "Lithium," "Heartshaped Box," "Rape Me," and more.
