jen hasn't seen ratatouille? alex hasn't seen no country? ha! why even make top ten lists if you're not going to see the best movies of the year? I can accept that joe shmo isn't going to catch every movie, but for RT staff I would consider both of those films mandatory viewing.

I also think that bourne is getting WAY too much love. It was cooler than most action movies, but didn't hold a candle to the first one. How people can say that's a better film than the roundly underrated 3:10 to Yuma is beyond me.

But I'll say that I like the idea of the lists and that the RT 2.0 Beta is looking great. Oh and Death Proof ruined Grindhouse so that movie doesn't belong here.

Lotsa great movies for sure BUT where is "I'm Not There"???? It's not there! Anywhere! This may be the most underappreciated movie of the year....

3:10 to Yuma should be in the top 3. Great script, Great performances, Great cinematography. Did I mention great performances?

split the list into two parts...intellectual and pure entertaining. some of these flicks don't fit into both categories. i actually took an off year on the intellectual movies this year...just don't have the time i guess to rent em(they're not theater worthy). if we're talking entertaining...300, Transformers, Bourne, Superbad, Knocked Up, Dirty Sanchez, Ghost Rider(i cried laughing, it was THAT bad), Disturbia, Grindhouse and a few others would definitely be on my list. i really did like Zodiak though, i forgot that came out this year. most overrated? Rat...by far. worst pixar movie ever. worst movie of the year...Halloween.

can we please give Bale an oscar for SOMETHING?? just somebody recognize this guy to the general public so he gets his praise for ONCE. he's one of the best actors of our time

Grindhouse got no respect at all. Loved it to death. HOWEVER, my pick for movie of the year (which I saw, still need to check out Country, Yuma, among other movies which look fantastic) would have to go to Control. Fantastic film. Everyone should check it out as soon as it reaches DVD.

There will always be great debate over movies that should be on the list and off the list . I generally like this list and i feel it is a good mix of what we saw in 2007 , each film was good in its own ways and deserves to be up there .

The list potentially could be chopped into categories with the top 3 of each being included .

The movie that is getting the dumped on the most is 300 , but if you think about its style , editing, effects and action sequences you have to appriciate what this movie accomplished .

I would agree that The Bourne Ultimatum should be up there , Grindhouse , Hot fuzz and American Gangster , but we cant have them all every year.

I would also agree that Christian Bale should at the very least be nominated for an Oscar , he has the ability to be so diverse and bring his characters to life he deserves to be recongnized in some way . You can argue he has less bad movies than you can count on one hand , Rescue Dawn and 3:10 to Yuma were amazing performances and as far as I am concerned he is the Best Actor to play Batman and make him dark and human ...

I am looking forward to 2008 as i feel it will be just as strong of a year for film with a few quality blockbusters on the way ...

2007 was a fantastic year for movies. I just came from seeing There Will Be Blood two nights ago and I will see it again. It's a masterpiece, which I can't forget, and is too intense to take it all in at once. I wouldn't put 300 in my top ten and would replace it with Eastern Promises; Viggo Mortensen gives the performance of a lifetime. I have no quarrel with the rest of the list. Most are on my list of top ten films to purchase later this year.

I agree Jen. There are a lot of excellent movies out this year. I just saw Atonement two weeks ago it is my top pick of the year. I plan to see Juno and There Will be Blood as well. I am not a big fan of comedies of big-budget action films.

If Atonement gets nominated for anything, it should be for all of Vanessa Redgrave's 5-minutes on screen.

Bourne Ultimatum, and even The Waitress should be added in the mix.

this year had some of the best dramas I've seen in a long time. Anyone who disagrees is just joyless.

I was pretty lukewarm this year on Hot Fuzz, 3:10 to Yuma, and I'm Not There...good movies, yes (though I think I'm Not There is seriously pretentious) but when you look at There Will Be Blood, Atonement, The Diving Bell and the Butterfly, No Country, Control...they really don't compare. At least to me. That said, I'm thankful that there were so many good movies this year that we have such a hard time picking the best of the lot.

As for Ratatouille...I'm not really a Pixar kinda girl.

Pft, No Country is far and away the most overrated movie of the year. And definitely on the lower end of the Cohen Brothers' repertoir. They can and have done much better.

The rest of the list, from what I've seen, seems to be a fairly good mix. No Country wouldn't even pierece my top 10, but Ratatouille would definitely be #1. I might even go as far as to say it's Pixar's best movie.
