Beowulf didn't ruin the poem. The poem is mostly famous because it's the oldest piece of old english and it's historical value. It isn't that great and this is coming from someone that owns two different translations and has read it many times. First off unless you can read old english your reading a translated version that will effect the rhyming and rhythm and possibly just completely destroy those values of it. The characters and story just isn't that deep or great either. The Neil Gaiman take on the poem was far more interesting, entertaining, and complex as a story. Beowulf was actually a pretty good movie and shouldn't be on any "worst" list.

Also entertainment isn't the only "point" of movies at all. I also can't really enjoy a movie unless it makes me feel something other than just entertained.

Great list. Though I would add The Bourne Ultimatum and despose of 300. Bourne Ultimatum is waaaayyyy better than 300!

First off Beowulf did ruin the poem because the poem is epic and the ideal is ruined when the movie makes Beowulf out to be a jackass. Gaiman took what used to be the greatest example of what a true hero is and makes him out to be a selfcentered ***. No person who read the orginal or liked the story can like the worst movie of the year.

Unless you are watching a documentary, entertainment IS the ONLY point of a movie. So wait you cant enjoy a stupid comedy because it does not make you think? Man you must live a dull sad life.

Ii am one of few who thought No Country For Old Men was way over-rated.

Bourne Ultimatum, Eastern Promises, Before the Devil Knows You're Dead, 2 Days in Paris, Enchanted are my top 5. And i didn't even see such movies like Juno, Atonement, Into the Wild, Gone Baby Gone and There Will Be Blood yet...So this was a GREAT year for movies. oh and Hairspray would be number 6

I'm sorry. Number 6 was Bourne Ultimatum...as much as it was cold, robotic, and mindless action and deviated from the book.

Forgot to post it.

So lemme re-do the list:

10) Superbad
9) Aqua Teen Hunger Force Colon Movie Film for Theaters
8) Bourne Ultimatum
7) Waitress
6) Knocked Up
5) 3:10 to Yuma
4) American Gangster
3) Ratatouille
2) Grindhouse
1) Zodiac

Wow your list is insane, Aqua teen, knocked up, grindhouse and zodiac as the best movies? Man that is sad.

P.S. How can you honestly think that Spiderman 3 is worse than Epic Movie or Norbit? Are you insane?

Yeah, that's called "my opinion" and I'm not the only one who thinks that.

chicubs1, have you ever heard of something called an "opinion" and everyone has a right to express it? You're reminding me of someone...

I'm sorry but..."Zodiac" was one of the most ponderous, bloated, boring & tedious films I have seen in a long time. I do not understand why people praise this film?! It's average at best. I can see why this failed at the box office.

I know its his opinion but i mean if you are going to post a worst list then you have to explain how spiderman 3 is somehow worst than Norbit or Aqua teen, unless ofcourse you are a stoner then i understand why you would love Aqua Teen.

I would also add some love for:

Rescue Dawn - Christian Bale is the new Jesus - can't wait for the day him and Mr. Depp star in film together.
The Bourne Ultimatum - a solid tomatometer, and arguably the best in the series; the thinking man's actioner (but the shakey camera is seriously unnecessary!!!
The Assasination of Jesse James - solid performances and largely underappreciated.
Eastern Promises - haven't seen it, but just assumed it would be on this list since everybody around RT jerks off to the works of Cronenberg.
Into the Wild - no other film got to me as much as this one. It's all about the message a film puts out there, and this has one of the best.
Transformers - this was a summer blockbuster that statistically speaking and from those I spoke to, certainly didn't dissapoint. If 300 makes this list, then Transformers should too. Movies don't always have to be deep, and I think this one has far great repeat value, far more than others from this year.
Sweeney Todd - albeit I hate the concept of musicals as it's not normal for people to break out in song, and I hate the kind of songs sung in them (mundane lyrics full of pointless exposition) - it's a genre that, generally speaking, would never be listened to outside of the cinema (i.e. very rarely would you find this kind of music on someone's iPod). Having said all this, it's a Tim Burton film, and visually alone, deserves to be on people's best of lists. Not to mention it has a solid tomatometer too.

Movies that shouldn't have made this list:
Knocked Up - maybe it's a cultural thing, but I found this far inferior to the 40yr Old Virgin and Superbad. I didn't even rate the 40yr Old Virgin that much. This Apatow kind of humour is praised as being something adult, original and inspired. It's the same old fart jokes as in Teen Comedies!!! It's just the teens are a little older, and more akin to that of the critics reviewing the films. As for original.. yeah, the whole pregnancy thing, or one partner being a bum hasn't been done before... no, not at all... Except for just about every single tv series having at least one episode dealing with this!

Oh yeah... and SUNSHINE should've made the list too. I love staring at that film as much as the people in it loved staring at the sun!

Also, STARDUST... which was the funniest and cleverest fantasy movie I've yet scene. I wouldn't have even thought of seeing it though, unless I was dragged along. But now I'm happy to admit I was wrong. A really great film.

Manwhore, I totally respect your opinion. I can how you would say that. Tediousness in the movie, however, matches the tedium of the case. Ponderous is something else I don't understand. The movie is MEANT to ponder.

It can't obviously come to a significant conclusion because the Zodiac case was never solved, therefore, it ponders.

Maybe that's just me.

What did you think was the best of the year? I meant to ask...

My brother watches Aqua Teens, I watch it, my friends watch it (about ten of them that I know). Out of all those people, one or two have smoked weed.

I'm not a stoner. Never have been. Neither is my brother. I'm not even really a fan of the show anymore as I stopped watching around season 3.

But I thought the movie was VERY funny and I loved the random humor and the whole bit with Carl attached to the giant exercise robot. The movie, on the whole, was VERY funny and it is, in my opinion, one of the best movies of the year.

As for SM3, Akn (it IS you, let's not kid anybody here; and don't pretend you aren't-it's pathetic), YES. I will write up my worst list tonight and post it on my blog.

Don't worry. I already know you're going to disagree and come back at me with insults like "loser", "nerd" and "you're a joke". I don't expect anything less than your ad hominem attacks from you. It's all good.

Take care, Andrew.

unlike many, i don't think this was such a great year for movies. sure the good were really good, but they were few and far between. there were far more bad. and the bad were REALLY bad. take a look at a list of all movies released in 2007, and i think you might agree.

on another note...i know this is blasphemy, but who else is getting sick of johnny depp playing different variations of the same cartoon character? i hope he decides to take a role pretty soon that does not require him to base on a screw ball has been pop rock star.

300 was entertaining but hardly one of the year's best. Rescue Dawn was a very good film as well, but I guess it is borderline. Those who keep mentioning the Host must have seen something that I didn't, aside from a comical monster flick. If I want mindless fun, I'll watch Grindhouse again and again. No Country for Old Men and Away From Her were my two favorites of the year, however. American Gangster was decent, but not much more than a 3 star film. I can't wait to see the Orphanage, Control and There Will Be Blood, so it's pretty difficult to put together a proper list when most of the year's serious films never hit wide release.
