BowieSwimmer writes: on Jan 02 2008 11:57 AM Gone Baby Gone should certainly have made the list, I would say in place of 300. Sure, 300 was a fun, original graphic novel adaptation, but I think there were better films released this year. Paprika was astounding, and should definitely have made the list, and should definitely be seen by more people. I found Eastern Promises a little underwhelming. A History of Violence was much better in my mind, and while the whole bathhouse fight scene is surely classic, and Viggo delivered an award season worthy performance, the film as a whole didn't live entirely up to its potential. Pleomax writes: on Jan 02 2008 01:39 PM They were able to cram some rather dubious picks in there, so it's sad to see that amidst the crappy picks, Bourne, undisputably one of the finest action movies in recent memory didn't made the list. It's one of the year's best.... Well whatever. (Reply to this) |

StuntmanMike writes: on Jan 02 2008 02:38 PM First off, this has been one of the best years for film this decade. We've had an incredible array of drama, action, fantasy, musicals and especially comedies. I'd agree and add Hot Fuzz, The Host (honestly the best monster movie to come out in years), Grindhouse and Bourne in there. I also really enjoyed The Darjeeling Limited and why is no one talking about Black Snake Moan? Watch it again and you'll see just how well-crafted and acted that film is. But I gotta say There Will Be Blood is probably the best film of the year. It is jaw-droppingly amazing and intense. Just go see it. Even if you hate PTA, this is really unlike any film he's done. Here's to a new year which I hope is just as good or better! (Reply to this) |

BowieSwimmer writes: on Jan 03 2008 07:35 AM I forgot to mention-- JEN YAMATO I LOVE YOU!!!!! Anyways: I actually found Bourne...underwhelming. Well maybe not "underwhelming," but certainly not as amazing so so many people seem to find it. I mean, sure, it was an excellent action film, but I found it a little too much like the previous two installments. And I'm not a big fan of when directors overuse the whole shaky, hand-held camera shots [look at NCFOM to see only one such obvious shot that was very well done/placed] It IS a notable film for 2007, and definitely the best pure action film of the year, but not top ten. And while I know that this isn't really a top ten list, because more than ten films are mentioned, it is a sampling for multiple top tens. (Reply to this) |

BowieSwimmer writes: on Jan 03 2008 07:39 AM Also, does anyone know when 4 Months, 3 Weeks, and 2 Days is getting a legitimate release? I know its still a small foreign film, but it should venture outside of LA/NYC right?! I was recently showing at the AFI Silver theater in Silver Spring at their annual foreign film festival, but obviously it wasn't showing there over a long period of time. Just wanted to know if anyone had info... :] (Reply to this) |

ajmk123 writes: on Jan 03 2008 02:28 PM whats wrong with this past year? The true sign that proves that this year was good is that you can take 100 people and they will all have different top ten best movie lists. Bad years are the ones where the lists are generally the same. (Reply to this) |

BowieSwimmer writes: on Jan 03 2008 04:36 PM I certainly think this was very solid year. While we've seen some of the worst movies in years [the first one that comes to mind is Norbit], 2007 also held a number of the best movies in years. And I think that those superb films outshine the dark spots of the year. Then again, I'm a sucker for dark, thought provoking films, and this fall certainly delivered on that front. At the least, its definitely stronger than 2006. And ajmk, I ACTUALLY AGREE WITH YOU!!! (Reply to this) |
