I enjoyed this without being knocked over by it so it's a perfectly decent film but by no means a major one.

Director Peter Flinth does a sleek job and holds interest but it struck me that this was not much more than fairly high quality television drama.

Insatiable crime buffs will enjoy Last Will, but subsequent episodes are unlikely to hit Australian cinema screens.

Lukewarm Swedish crime thriller sorely lacks the geo-genre's signature narrative filth-plus-flawed hero.

For all its strengths, it feels like a B movie or a telemovie with cinematic hopes, thanks to its weaknesses

I was intrigued by this film from the outset; my attention held throughout by its attractive protagonist and led through the winding pathways of the narrative to its chilling and thrilling conclusion

...may feel a little bit generic when you remove the Scandinavian origins but you could do a lot worse for an evening's entertainment.

Audience Reviews for Nobel's Last Will

Promising start but a lacklustre finish.

For those who are fans of the traditional detective fiction, the killer is easy to guess from the beginning. I did, yet the film still managed to be engrossing and enjoyable despite this and the many plot holes that pop up. Crepin is one of the most engaging aspects, bringing spark to a character that could otherwise be boring - lacking the conventional flaws of the hard-boiled detective. The film does a good job of making side characters, who are obviously well known in the books (fellow news reporters and editors, etc.), feel familiar and three dimensional rather than just people Annika bumps into, but deftly doesn't linger on them for longer than necessary. This worked for the majority of the time but I did wish we'd seen more of Detective Inspector Q; he had a great repartee with Annika and Engstom was excellent in these short scenes.
