There she falls in love with a passionate young general fighting in Pancho Villa's army, while at the same time finding herself drawn to a mysterious, aging American man. The American turns out to be the journalist Ambrose Bierce (Gregory Peck), who disappeared in Mexico in 1913. The three characters become enmeshed in a love triangle that plays itself out against the dramatic backdrop of the Mexican Revolution. Based on Carlos Fuentes' novel. [More]

While there’s nothing inherently awful about Old Gringo, it had the potential to be something more than it is – a semi-coherent romantic melodrama.
