Since I get the feeling you disliked it...would you care to offer your thoughts in more detail? Perhaps instead of insulting each other, we can have a very enlightening discussion about the film and its relevance (or perhaps a lack of relevance, if that is how you feel).
whats a good movie for highly intelligent individuals like you might i ask? all i see is you comment everywhere about this movie like youre on a personal vendetta. you seem kinda insecure but back to the point, tell us some intelligent movies (prolly youll come up with some pseudo artistic crap or shawshank lol)
Al those movies rank higher than your precious Oldboy here. Your taste in movies is ridiculous and you failed to mention Spoorloos, which is far more clever than Oldboy could ever hope to be.
It's funny that you consider your second opinion of any importance when you slander the people of another opinion. "The intelligence level of Oldboy fans." Obviously with that sort of though process nobody would take your critiques seriously.
You seem to dislike OldBoy on a personal level, perhaps it goes against one of your beliefs. I personally think it's a outstanding movie and that it is underrated even for an 81%. A lot of critics that dislike it is normally due to the abnormal violence and cruelty. For them it is hard to get passed and their opinions are set.
Reasons I think it is great.
-There is a very unexpected twist.
-Has great suspense.
-Shows how cruel humans can be.
-Those who seek revenge needs to dig two graves, one for their enemy and one for themselves.
-Acting was very well done
-References and takes some ideas from Count of Monte Cristo which is a classic book
-Great quotes "Though I am a beast..." "Laugh and the world laughs with you..."
-Doesn't rely heavily on action scenes. Though arguably it relies on the gore, but more so a necessity for it plays a important role.
I could probably go on but you probably don't care.
Those people also slander those with a second opinion, but you overlook that for some reason. Do you seriously think Prats made an intelligent comment?
I don't have anything personally against Oldboy, it is just not a good movie. An 81% is hardly underrated.
I saw the twist coming because the protagonist never tries to get in contact with his daughter. Spoorloos did a superior job with handling suspense and how cruel humans can be. The dangers of revenge has been done to death in films. The quote about weeping alone makes no sense, sorrow is usually shared more than laughter. The actions that do appear are ridiculous. The highlight for me is when the protagonists takes down TWO waves of enemies. Of course, this occurs off-screen.
I like most asian films, but this movie sucked. NOT one of the best thrillers, as some people say. There are dozens of thrillers out there vastly superior in all aspects.
- Why would a young attractive woman be attracted to some old, rugged, homeless bum, and have sex with while saying "it's so painful, but I'll endure it for you." It's the most implausible thing I've ever seen on film.
- The incest twist was stupid and perverted, along with his memory-wipe decision
- Many lines were eye-rolling, pseudo-philosophy
M.S. - whats up with you and the vanishing anyway?oldboy and the vanishing have nothing in common. If you are going to criticize a movie atleast do it properly and sensibly. And by sensibly I mean critiquing the movie itself without drawing inane baseless comparisons. Just because such and such is better than much does not necessarily make much be bad.
Personally Oldboy alongwith Amelie is my favourtie film but i wont defend it,i cant defend it because as i mentioned already the choice is personal. If you "hate" oldboy and wish to defend your "hatred" then do so without being such an arrogant douchebag. Its disgusting when people like you get needlessly vicious. People who have something to say dont have to resort to remarks like " the intelligence of oldboy fans".
You're complaining about M.S.'s inability to criticize properly when your grammer and spelling is deficient. Most of all, you're argument is flawed. And hypocritical.
"Arrogant douche-bag"? "Hatred"? "Disgusting"?
Really? Calm down, you're acting like the typical 12-year-old commenter, insulting someone because they didn't like the movie you liked. It's like crying over the fact someone dislike chocolate ice cream, over vanilla. How would you feel after stating that a movie sucked, someone started insulting you?
None of those words represent him at all. He simply and articulated stated his opinion on why the movie was not a good movie. It's no different than your opinion that you liked it.
This was not a great movie. And to have people raving about it, defending it vehemently like it's your loyal nation you would die on the battlefield is irrational, therefore, rendering M.S's claim about "the intelligence of Oldboy fans" somewhat understandable.

Why don't you list your reasons first? The review at the top already has reasons to dislike it.

I see you replying to me twice and you call me insecure. If Shawshank is "pseudo artistic crap," what does that make Oldboy?
