No "Oldboy" Remake?
If you've been holding your breath for director Justin Lin's long-rumored American remake of his Korean action hit "Oldboy," it sounds as though you may as well exhale: Dark Horizons reports that Lin, at the Sundance Festival this week, told Bloody Disgusting that it doesn't look like it's going to happen.
Lin's specific reason for this was the old "a lot of other projects in the works" excuse, but he's long maintained that his satisfaction with the original "Oldboy" would preclude him from doing a remake unless it was absolutely perfect.

Choi Min-Sik in the Korean version of "Oldboy."

digitalsoul68 writes: on Jan 25 2007 12:48 PM I second that AMEN An Oldboy remake would just be stuck in the mire of Hollywood remakes and just not be as effective IMO. Someone mentioned Gary Oldman playing Oh Dae-su's part would have been good and if they had David Fincher directing it MAY HAVE worked, but best leave a masterpiece alone. (Reply to this) |

Squaregeiz writes: on Jan 25 2007 11:55 PM Thank goodness. This film did not need to be remade. In fact, it barely even needed to be made. I cant stand how many people act as if this is the greatest film ever made, and just completely ignore the plot holes that are as bad as anything in Snakes on a Plane. It was an okay movie, and that's it. And that hallway scene is ridiculously stupid. That's probably one of the worst fight scenes (OMG obviously CG knife in a guy's back!) ever set to film that didn't involve Charlie's Angels in some way. (Reply to this) |

Maven writes: on Jan 28 2007 11:03 PM It's a scuzzbag convention! The real reason this piece of trash won't be remade is obvious- the market for Incest Porn is fairly limited in this country, being mainly restricted to the majority of people who posted in this thread about how much they 'loved' the original.
