Critic Reviews for Older Than America
Older than American Sniper too. And despite Bradley Cooper turning up championing Native Americans, this First Nation telling it like it is thriller about neo-colonialist oppression by a Native female filmmaker has been buried all these years as well.
Audience Reviews for Older Than America
It's about 2% substance and 98% message, but I can see why that would appeal to some, it's just not really for me.
A very powerful movie. I don't think I've ever read a book or seen a movie about Native Americans that wasn't tragic. Sad how the church can find so many different ways to ruin lives, now and in the past. No critic has even bothered to review this movie. Why is that? Maybe, like Native American history, we can just act like it never happened.
Any flaws this film had I think was overcome by the subject matter, which is rarely seen on television or in film. It was filmed in Cloquet, MN on the Fond du Lac Reservation, which I have only passed through. I only remember it really as a failing casino on the way to Duluth, where I'll be going again this summer. I've thought of staying at the hotel there. Anyway, the acting was good, the story was great but terribly sad, and it was educational. Ultimately that's why I appreciated it, but it was an entertaining and engaging film to watch nonetheless. It's a free On Demand movie on Charter in St. Cloud right now, also streaming and to rent on Netflix.
