Movie Info

Though made on a small budget, this crime melodrama tells a taut and tightly woven story of a crooked politician who takes in an impoverished street girl, not because he cares about her, but to boost his flagging ratings. The girl, however, is a petty thief for a gypsy fortune teller. To get revenge, the medium lays a curse on both the politician who scoffs at her and takes the girl. Many years pass and the politician becomes increasingly powerful and wealthy. One day, his ward returns from her private schooling. The political is so struck by her beauty and new grace that he begs her to marry him. She politely turns him down, saying that she would rather concentrate upon her studies. The politician doesn't want to take no for an answer and so hires someone to follow her and the young man to whom she is attracted. The pot really starts to boil over when the girl and her guardian get into a tussle that leaves her believing she has fulfilled they gypsy's prophecy.more

Audience Reviews for On Probation

This movie was better than I expected. The plot reminds me of that Moliere play, and it works well as a film. I liked it.
