The director is obviously a big Lynch fan but lacks the basic vision, ingenuity and sense of irony necessary to keep this poor attempt at headiness afloat as it drifts aimlessly between each non-existent plot point. On top of that the actors lack the experience to emotionally convey any inner turmoil, or give us insight as to layers that may or may not exist beneath their facades.
What do we have? Guess that metaphor!
Existential crises? Drug abuse? Teen angst? Life on Mars? Or just a day in the life of batshit-crazy teenage girls?
Who knows. Frankly, about halfway through it all becomes irrelevant anyway. The point is; there's a time and place for open-ended storytelling. Sometimes the audience learns more by not being given clear-cut resolutions and statements of truth. However, here the writer's obtuseness clearly gives away his ineptitude as they use vagueness as a means unto itself...which is itself completely pointless and the movie ceases to be a movie.
