Critic Review - Newark Star-Ledger

I guess I can't call the movie sexist as it was largely produced, directed and written by women. So I'll settle for calling it dull, corny and amateurish instead.

I haven't seen the film yet so I can't say if I agree that this flick is sexist... but you're wrong in saying that women can't be sexist. Of course they can! And particularly when they are working within an industry that is sexist as often as Hollywood is. If a woman manages to finagle her way into the old boys' clubs of the studios, she's probably not going to be inclined to rock the boat too much if she wants to stay in the club.

It's generally not advisable, or even particularly polite, to "rock the boat" in the movie industry, or any industry. It's not a sex thing, people just don't find it "cute" when you show up and crash the party. Being a woman does not give you a free pass to break the rules.

MaryAnn isn't talking about "rocking the boat" in terms of "breaking the rules," whatever you may mean by that. "Rocking the boat," in some cases, means making an attempt to tell stories in an honest, none-stereotypical way that's actually compelling. It is hard for women to do this because a lot of Hollywood studios ARE still boys' clubs, and no one wants to put a lot of energy into films aimed at a predominantly female audience. Therefore, makers of films for women tend to fall back on what'll rake in the most money for the least amount of effort.

Ahh so women played the biggest role in the making of this movie? See girls, Hollywood isn't sexist. We just don't allow you to make movies because YOU'RE TERRIBLE AT IT.

See Red Road, Fish Tank, The Woodsman, The Hurt Locker, Point Break, Titus, An Education, Lost In Translation, Frozen River, Winters Bone, or any of the other great films directed by women that I didn't just pull off the top of my head.

And try not to be such an idiot.

Either you're joking to attract attention, or you're serious and a moron. Either way, you have no business existing.
