Located just outside Los Angeles, this small but historic airport has had its share of famous visitors: Marilyn Monroe was discovered here, and Amelia Earhart broke a speed record over its grounds. Indeed, a new flock of celebrities--Sydney Pollack, Lorenzo Lamas, and more (all interviewed)--have learned to fly on its runways. But, increasingly, Van Nuys and other local airports are under threat and dwindling in number. With gorgeous aerial photography and interviews that covey the wonder of flying, this documentary argues for the vital role these local airports play in serving regional business, and providing a breeding ground for the next generation of pilots.
