We first meet Chris, a Buddhist monk in his twenties, who lives a simple life filled with meditation, moderation, and abstinence. Despite his lifestyle, he soon becomes entranced with his 18 year old female neighbor, whom he dubs Lotusia because of her seeming innocence, like a lotus growing in a swamp of mud. He soon discovers his innocence to be superficial. A peephole in the wall breaks down the barrier between Chris and Lotusia as each peers into the life of the other. However, it is what Chris sees and his lack of interference with Lotusia's predicaments that propel the plot forward and culminate in a series of tragic events. One Third is inspired in part by a quote from Dante's Inferno, 'Maintain the melancholy souls of those who lived without infamy or praise.' --© Official Site [More]

Reviews for One Third
A paper-thin wall within a grungy East Village apartment building separates good and evil, hope and despair and Eastern and Western practice in the slightly self-enamored yet generally affecting 1/3.
Kim has his cast emulate the melodramatic performance style of D.W. Griffith-era silents, but at some point this begins to torture the film into self-parody.
A valuable examination of the intersection of Eastern and Western philosophies from a distinctly Asian perspective.
The sexual horror makes it difficult to watch at times, but a voyeuristic slant on The Divine Comedy sort of needs to be.
