How do you solve a murder when all the evidence points to you? Suppose everything you knew – everything you trusted – became a lie. For Matt Lee Whitlock, that nightmare has become a reality. Matt (Denzel Washington) is the chief of police in small Banyan Key, Florida. A hardworking man who’s good at his job, he’s respected by his peers and beloved by his community. But when Banyan Key is shocked by a brutal double homicide, Matt starts his investigation – and his life starts to unravel. As details of the case begin to surface, all of the evidence points to Matt as the prime suspect. Now with the investigation in full swing and several people working the case, Matt finds himself in a race against time to solve the murders before others uncover the clues he’s finding and he himself falls under suspicion. He has to stay a few steps ahead of his own police force and everyone he’s trusted in order to clear his name and uncover the horrifying truth. As the film’s intricate storyline twists and turns, speeding towards its explosive climactic confrontation, it becomes all too apparent that the truth is on Matt’s side – time, however, is not. Reviews for Out of Time
If you base your decision on the poster, you will miss a fairly inventive, atmospheric and endearing movie that is never anything less than adequately entertaining.
But Washington hasn't made a movie like this in a long time, and those hoping that "Time" will be on par with director Carl Franklin's other Denzel detective flick "Devil in a Blue Dress," should be prepared for something a bit different.
Carl Franklin seems to have been trying for a long time to recreate the noir thriller success of his early film "One False Move" but has never come even remotely close.
Franklin is known for being good with actors, but Out Of Time also reveals his flair with machines, which too often dominate the plots of latter-day noirs.
Franklin ramps the heart-thumping pace up and keeps it there for so long, the film feels like a success.
While it breaks no new ground, Out of Time seizes familiar story lines and gussies them up just enough to make the movie a worthwhile experience.
A well-performed, perfectly watchable thriller that's nonetheless as generic as its title.
Franklin is noted for his forays into the underbelly of brutality and betrayal, and his 1992 cult favorite, One False Move, is a perfect example of his ability to mine the essence of the genre.
Dynamic but obsessively remote from reality, Out of Time is like a drive-in movie for a car junkyard. The motor races, but the tires are flat, while the characters are given sizzle by their cell phones.
It's a kick to watch Denzel Washington do a movie just for the hot, sexy fun of it.
A stylish and entertaining Southern thriller in the Body Heat tradition, but with a bit less logic and steam.
The movie's path is mostly tedious and convoluted, but occasionally it ventures into compelling territory.
Can you see the ending coming a mile way? Sure you can. But in this case, getting there is way more than half the fun.
