The Ozzy... Ozzy Osbourne is revered as many things: a metal musical icon, a lauded reality-television celebrity, and godhead of the longest running rock festival tour in the history of the business. The Ozzy branding is a multimedia phenomenon, leaving nothing undone--except perhaps an all-covers album paying tribute to songs near and dear to Ozzy's heart. First served up as gravy in the PRINCE OF DARKNESS box set, UNDER COVER sees a stand-alone release with bonus tracks. Putting the Ozzy stamp on Mountain ("Mississippi Queen") and Cream ("Sunshine of Your Love") seems logical enough, but metalheads may be surprised by the lighter fare. Ozzy expresses his admiration for John Lennon with two Lennon solo-era cuts and his beloved Beatles with a poignant version of "In My Life." Also left off the earlier release but found on UNDER COVER are Ozzyfied takes on Joe Walsh's "Rocky Mountain Way" and the Moody Blues' "Go Now." While shred guitar devotees may find the absence of Zakk Wylde disappointing, Oz is joined by the very capable Jerry Cantrell (Alice in Chains), his fellow Cardboard Vampyres cohort Chris Wyse (The Cult), and longtime Ozzy drummer Mike Bordin (Faith No More). This DualDisc presents the CD version of UNDER COVER on one side and a DVD version with surround-sound mix and bonus video material (including a behind-the-scenes featurette) on the other. [More]
