We want to thank everyone who submitted love poems to our Paper Heart Twitter Contest! Paper Heart's very own Charlyne Yi and director Nick Jasenovec personally read through entries to hand pick one winner and one runner-up from hundreds of submissions; find out if your entry made the Top 20 after the jump. And while one lucky winner will get to attend tonight's Paper Heart red carpet premiere in Los Angeles, the rest of us lucky readers get to peruse the sometimes heart-breaking, often comical odes to romance submitted to the contest. Read on for the winner and Top 20 Finalists of RT's Paper Heart Twitter contest!

Paper Heart stars comedienne Charlyne Yi as Charlyne Yi, a girl who's never been in love. As director Nick Jasenovec's "documentary" crew follows her around the United States, Charlyne talks to people of all kinds to find out what love really is. Along the way, a burgeoning romance with Michael Cera complicates things...how will it all turn out? Paper Heart is in select theaters August 7.

In the name of true love, we asked our readers to submit their best Paper Heart-themed love poems, restricted to 140 characters and under. Submissions were accepted via Rotten Tomatoes' Twitter account (follow us today!) and hand-picked by Yi and Jasenovec themselves. Congrats to our winners and to everyone who participated! (User names noted as Twitter handles below; if you like a poem, give these fine folks a Twitter shout!)

1st Place: @jwilkins19

One time/on the riverfront I/hid the hole in my paper/heart and we/laughed away our summer night.

Runner-up: @Existentialecho

An object breeds affection, amidst naïve clouds devoid of misdirection, but reflection warns my paper heart of imperfection.

Again, thank you to everyone who submitted poems to us during the contest! We had tons of amazing entries; who knew you guys were all poets? (We didn't know it!) Below, mend your paper hearts with the rest of our Top 20 Finalists:

@alexdevera: A narrow shiver down my side,/ my paper heart at a risk./ He extends a hand,/ My absent mind,/ "Take it, I insist."

@trbenedict: Whn Poe lngd 4 Lenore He tuk up a pen Whn th Rev lngd 4 Hestr He snk 2 mrtal sin Whn my papr hrt lngs 4 u I tweet&tweet agn.

TRANSLATION: When Poe longed for Lenore/He took up a pen/When the Reverend longed for Hester/He sank to mortal sin/When my paper heart longs for you/I tweet and tweet again

@burntpineapple: A child's scrawl or an author's opus, filled with love or rage, Is a beating paper heart, raw emotion pulsing on the page.

@stmnpls: born to boxes. check yes/no. a third exists for iffy throws. what is it? woe or wonder? with loss, the paper heart asunder.

@drawtippy: Origin Story: Stack up another comic book box. I have room. 'Cause yer the board in my bag. My paper heart. Bam! Boom.

@themattdavis: Tacos are gross, but wieners are okay. Sorry to break your paper heart, ladies, but I am gay.

@DaniestBangest: Kids warn me about you/She's odd/She burps/ She walks barefoot/But I don't care/You make my paper heart burst into confetti

@themoviesnob: I saw u on the nite shift at the local gas station/Suddenly, my paper heart fluttered/Could be the fumes/But it's probably u

@dylna: Our paper hearts fold into shapes we never knew, but love can tear along the seams it creates. Be gentle with love's origami

@deniselchandler: Like a perfectly fried and flavored hot wing or a well constructed paperheart on a string, love is a rare and glorious thing

@continuityissue: Can you be my Hall to my Oats; my Nancy to my Sid; my Siegfried to my Roy; my Thelma to my Louise; my Paper to my Heart?

@jwilkins19: One time/on the riverfront I/hid the hole in my paper/heart and we/laughed away our summer night.

@jefftexas88: Snapshot of a love that isn't real, denying vehemently that I feel. Then you I meet, my paper heart turns to ashes at your feet

@GingersSteven: A cynic's mind sharpened to define love by the number; then true love comes into her life & tears her paper heart asunder.

@kristenmchugh22: paper hearts, paper planes, origami cranes on shred-edged notebook paper. Longing to fly. Whispering your name. Always.

@sumeetchadha: without you I'm nothing, a wet paper heart, no emotions, no feelings, just like songs on top of the billboard charts.

@existentialecho: An object breeds affection, amidst naïve clouds devoid of misdirection, but reflection warns my paper heart of imperfection.

@GreGalbr: Across the sky I would follow you like a paper heart kite on a string. Baby I'll be your love tail, if you will be my wind.

@flashlitetag: If hearts were made of paper, and paper made of blood, then love would be a taper worm, and love notes made of mud.

@gorester: paper hearts when we were 8, we threw them off the shores. years went by but not too late, you found mine & i found yours.

Great submissions all around, but I do have to call out a few of my personal faves:

@trbenedict - Brilliant way to fit a lovely poem into 140 characters!

@themattdavis - Funny.

@themoviesnob - Maybe it's the fumes, but I loved this one too.

Very cute. I like the winners, but the gas station one is amazing. Also, tacos and weiners guy, I salute you.

@trbenedict and @themattdavis were the best. Who are they on rotten tomatoes? I admit, I had a damn hard time reading trbenedict's, but thanks for the translation... it made it beautiful and a lot more meaningful to me. Oh, and @flashlitetag's poem was creepy... but kind of romantic, still.

I would have have entered something if not for the MUST BE OVER 18 rule.

They were all really nice. trbenedict's was difficult to read but cute and smart (to make the character count on twitter).
themattdavis, DaniestBangest and themoviesnob were really silly. Kudos.

Congrats to the winners =)

By declaring my poem unfinished you turned my paper heart into litter and didn't see the possibilities the but offered. I thought you would get it.

Why is there a picture of E.T. in the middle of the poems?
