"Fahrenheit 9/11," Michael Moore's scathing documentary against the current administration, was voted Favorite Motion Picture, with Mel Gibson's "The Passion of the Christ" taking the award for Favorite Drama Motion Picture at the 31st People's Choice Awards on Sunday. "Shrek 2" was also a big winner, taking the top honors in the Favorite Comedy, Favorite Animated, and Favorite Sequel categories. Johnny Depp won for Favorite Male Movie Star, and Julia Roberts won for Favorite Female Movie Star. See the complete list here.

All three of those are pretty good, but that's it, and there were plenty that were much, much more deserving. Shrek 2 over The Incredibles? This proves that people are stupid.

I was sad all through the peoples choice awards. It was depressing. JOEY WON OVER ZACH BRAFF!! And Shrek 2 won over the Incredibles! WHY?!?!

Let's put a big asterisk next to "Passion of the Christ".

The American Family Association www.afa.net had an e-mail
campaign.

By Dec. 14, over 400,000 people had responded to the e-mails
and registered on the site as using a link in the e-mail to vote for Passion.

So, the award means that Religious Organizations can spur their
members to vote in large numbers after an e-mail campaign, NOT
that Mel's film deserved any award on merit, or was the favorite
of the general movie-going public.

Shame, Mel.

That's the saddest news I've ever heard. Farenheit 911 was REALLY the people's favorite movie of the year? What...no Aviator, Incredibles, Spider-man 2, or Eternal Sunshine. And Passion of the Christ...yikes. Even Shrek 2 was mediocre compared to a certain other CG cartoon. This...along with the insanely high box office for Meet the Fockers, proves that the American public are complete morons. Oh...and a certain presidential election. I weep for humanity.

Damn those crazy religious bastards. I'm in the minority who is both a movie geek and one who enjoyed PotC, but I don't think it deserves any awards. Maybe a nomination for costumes or set design.

Also, seriously, Fahrenheit 9/11 is the people's favorite movie? While I liked it (a lot), 51% of the population most likely totally hate it. And seriously... best movie of the year?

These people need to get out more.

I'm not surprised. If the American people can elect Forest Gump to the most powerful office in the world, how can anybody expect them to pick a decent movie as the best of the year. The dumbing down of America is complete.

I found a site that posted the e-mail sent out by
the AFA.

For some reason, they asked their members to vote
for Passion in the category of "Favorite Drama Movie" but
NOT in the category of "Favorite Movie."

That's why Mel got an award in one category but NOT
in the other.

Look for something similar to happen at the Oscars.
Jamie Foxx is up for Best Actor for "Ray" and
Best Supporting Actor for 'Collateral." He could
win both. But if you thought someone else did
a better job as Best Actor, you almost have to
vote for him in the Supporting Category. So, I
would imagine he'll get more votes in Supporting.
