What Turturro, who appears in the film as a combination tour guide and impresario, has come up with is closer to a fantasia than a traditional documentary.
You are correct and I am sure someone has noticed that. I am surprised by the positive reviews. I am a Neapoletan and I know the culture and the music of Naples. Imagine that someone would take the Great American songs and change its music into Middle Eastern and Arab rhythms and would call the project a documentary of the American great songs. That is exactly what John Turturro did with the music of Naples in his so-called Ô??documentaryÔ?? Passione. This is not the music I listen as a child. The music my parents, grandparents and great grandparents enjoyed. That same music that touched your heart and warmed your soul. This movie took the essence of Neapolitan songs and changed them into Middle Eastern and Arab rhythms. I do not know why the poorest and run down areas of the city were chosen. This movie is misleading and offensive in every sense of the way.
