Army psychiatrist Lt. Vicki Loren (Janet Leigh) decides to raise the morale of the troops stationed at an isolated radar station near the Arctic Circle by staging a lottery to award one of the men a perfect furlough: three weeks in Paris with movie star Sandra Roca (Linda Cristal). When notorious ladies' man Rogers manages to tilt the event in his favor, the brass sends Lt. Loren as a chaperone to avoid potential public embarrassment. Once in Paris, Rogers is annoyed to learn that his attempts to launch a major offensive are being hampered by "dates" that are little more than heavily monitored photo ops. Ever resourceful, he finds ways to whisk the voluptuous Roca away from the vigilant care of her duenna, Liz Baker (Elaine Stritch), for leisurely trysts in the countryside. Although his antics outrage Loren, who was seemingly repelled by his reputation, it's possible that she's changing her mind about him. THE PERFECT FURLOUGH is an enjoyable 1950s vintage sex comedy, with good work by a tart-tongued Stritch and a perfectly cast Curtis. [More]
