It has interesting characters and a strong cast, but Perrier's Bounty ultimately fails to do anything original with them.

Movie Info

An ordinary guy gets himself in an extraordinary amount of trouble in this blend of comedy and action from director Ian Fitzgibbon. Michael McCrea (Cillian Murphy) is a regular guy who isn't especially good with money, which leads him to borrow some money from Perrier (Brendan Gleeson), a local loan shark and strong-arm man. Unfortunately, Michael isn't able to pay back the money on schedule, and he quickly learns that Perrier is one man you don't want angry; now there's a price on Michael's

This is one of those time-killer movies that definitely goes well with a pint of Guinness.

Perrier's Bounty is all stock material, full of characters that deserve more than the cliched shootouts and showdowns that befall them. Even the movie's most natural impulses seem to come from a can.

An uneven mix of conventional caper and sentimental hooey, but there's no denying a certain quotient of fun.

A hectic, ultraviolent romp that is inordinately pleased with its own sardonic nihilism.

At times, O'Rowe and Fitzgibbon appear to be straining too hard for effect, but at its best the film has a cartoonish vitality. The plot may be all over the place, but the cast relish O'Rowe's salty dialogue

A bit of underworld blarney from the Old Sod, "Perrier's Bounty" is another darkly comical-philosophical Irish gangster movie. The film, directed by TV veteran Ian Fitzgibbon and scripted by Mark O'Rowe ("Boy A"), doesn't quite work.

Bang, bang; smack, smack; run, run; bang, bang. That's the essence of Perrier's Bounty, with brief stops for romance and dog-killing.

Charming and cynical, violent and sweet, well-made and offbeat...Perrier's Bounty is an entertaining film that doesn't take itself seriously.

A moderately engaging, but uneven hodgepodge of comedy, action, drama and romance that lacks surprises, imagination and palpable thrills. It's barely saved by lively characters and all-around solid performances.

It's an effective genre piece, propelled by the strong performances of Cillian Murphy, Jodie Whittaker and especially Jim Broadbent.

Not designed to blend in and yet lacking the extra inch to distinguish it from its better-known kin, Perrier's Bounty is content to merely measure up.

Delicious and propulsive...It's an expert blend of thrills, laughs and jeopardy - like a strong Irish coffee with a jolt of pepper.

A would-be eccentric thriller not quite saved by Jim Broadbent's spectral, wacky performance.

Audience Reviews for Perrier's Bounty

Thinks it's Martin McDonagh but it's actually a crap (crappier) Guy Richie but without the camera tricks. Tiresome, seen it all before, waist of good actors (Cillian Murphy not included) nonsense. The balance of comedy and drama doesn't work, it's no where near black/dark comedy enough to be taken seriously or find funny. How many script reviews did they have or did they just go with the first draft of everything and start shooting?

simple, strait narrative with few surprises, but highly entertaining. the film held a solid tension between the dramatic and the amusing. the end was a bit silly, but overall the film had character. very good watch.

This movie is totally awesome to watch. A wickedly hilarious and explosively entertaining crime-thriller that's just a pure joy. It's fast-paced, terrifically original and vastly enjoyable with enough twist and action to go around. A dazzling crime flick that packs alot of heat as well as humor and strongly committed performances from it's wonderful cast. A tremendously enjoyable and very funny action-packed comic thriller that has loving every minute. The best Irish crime film since In Bruge. It's like a Guy Ritchie movie, except only smarter. The all-cast is just wonderful in their roles. Cillian Murphy is fantastic. Brendan Gleeson is excellent as always. Jim Broadbent is marvelous, he's brilliant in this role whether he's tackling comedy or the dramatic side of the character. A full-clip of fun from start to finish.

Cast: Cillian Murphy, Brendan Gleeson, Gabriel Byrne, Jim Broadbent, Domhnall Gleeson, Jodie Whittaker, Andrew Simpson, Padraic Delaney, Conleth Hill, Natalie Britton, Michael Fitzgerald

Director: Ian Fitzgibbon

Summary: Dublin gangster Perrier (Brendan Gleeson) orders his henchmen to collect a debt from small-time crook Michael (Cillian Murphy). But when Michael's unstable pal, Brenda (Jodie Whittaker), accidentally shoots one of the goons during the shakedown, the freaked-out couple must go on the run. Complications mount when Michael's estranged dad, Jim (Jim Broadbent), comes along for the ride.

My Thoughts: "It's a fun, humorous, quirky Irish gangster film. Great acting by Cillian Murphy and Jim Broadbent. Liked their chemistry. Action throughout, only a few slow spots. Was nice seeing Cillian Murphy in a more funnier role. Just a good little action flick that won't be wasted in a rental."
