Audience Reviews for Perry Como's Early American Christmas
While not a movie, this one is easy to rate a 100%. The Perry Como Christmas specials were a yearly must on my list of things to do and anticipate. This year of 1978 took America to colonial Williamsburg, Virginia. I visited the place 3 times largely due to this tv show's inspiring glimpse of a remade colonial capitol.
You can get this one of six of Perry's best Christmas specials on one VHS cassette titled: "Christmas Around the World with Perry Como" for very little on amazon.com
Perry visits France, Canada, Austria, Mexico, Colonial Williamsburg and the Holy Land. Each country exhibits its traditions surrounding Christmas. 32 plus Christmas favorite songs too.
Seeing and hearing giant (standing next to Perry) John Wayne sing is painful. Aside from that, this wonderful Christmas episode transports us all to a day when things were far simpler. We get to see wagon wheels made, candles dipped, wigs made... all the things the tourist hotspot of Colonial Williamsburg is known for and can be visited at any time.
By the way, the summertime is the best time to see Colonial Williamsburg as you will see cannons set off, marching colonials and all the house exhibits and trades in full exhibit. At Christmas time most of the town's big attactions seemed to be shut down. But you can always get lunch or a dinner by candlelight at Raliegh's Tavern.
I advise getting the VHS Christmas Around the World with Perry Como for any fan of Perry and his wonderful Christmas specials, all six of them on the cassette running 2 hours long total.
