Critic Review - Ebert & Roeper

This guy's not the Phantom of the Opera, he's the Fashionably Scarred Stud of the Opera and that just doesn't work.

Personally I think it added to the effect for me. The fact that only half of his face is scarred is a fresh standpoint. I found myself realizing that simply because half of his face was deformed and messed-up, he was rejected and hurt. Simply because of half of his face. If not for that half of his face, he would have probably been one of the most distinguished people in history. I found myself looking into the human nature and seeing how small things with a person's appearance can simply make us view them as a monster, even something as small as half of his face. It brought out an emotional side to it for me.
