Review Revue: Can Traveling Pants Derail Pineapple Express?
Or will The Dark Knight swoop in for even more box office cash?
This week two doobie-smoking heroes might just give Batman a run for his money, as Pineapple Express opens to considerable fan anticipation. But don't count out the plucky, denim-swapping girls of Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2 just yet! Watch to see what the critics are saying in this week's Review Revue!
Join RT's Matt Atchity, Jen Yamato, and Gabi Jacobs to discuss this week's opening wide releases. Though a bit shy of its target Tomatometer rating of 420 percent, Pineapple Express is floating in Fresh territory this weekend; were critics inhaling along with stoned heroes Seth Rogen and James Franco? Does the fifth and final 2008 film of producer Judd Apatow live up to Superbad- or Knocked Up-level hype? And what's with all the talk of spliffs, joints, sticky-icky and Mary Jane coming from our esteemed Tomatometer critics this week?
And before you dismiss girl power sequel Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2 this weekend, consider the power of the pants...and the ladies in them. If you didn't mind the first Sisterhood, you might not mind the second. See what else critics say about the movie that your mothers, daughters, and sisters might opt for over the misadventures of weed-smoking schlubs this weekend.
Check back next week as we discuss a packed weekend of new releases: Tropic Thunder, Star Wars Clone Wars, Vicky Cristina Barcelona, and Mirrors.

Hoby524 writes: on Aug 08 2008 04:19 PM The real question: Will sales of Pineapple Express like substances be way up this weekend? I saw Pineapple Express in a crowded theater Wednesday evening. The crowd seemed to have consumed a great deal before entering. There were also a lot more women in the crowd, it seemed to have a wider appeal than I expected. Maybe it has a chance against the Dark Knight. Of course both pictures will kick Traveling Pants' pants. (Reply to this) |

CaptainSiberia writes: on Aug 08 2008 05:40 PM The new guy is too low-key. Too quiet. The dynamic isn't working. I think what you need is a wise guy. You need that kind of spark to supercharge the discussion. The animated Star Wars movie is gonna suck. I mean really suck. Hopefully it won't suck as much as the Clone Wars TV series did. (Come on. It had a good director, but the acting (both voice and animated) and the script were total crap.) (Reply to this) |

SASQUATCHfrenzy writes: on Aug 09 2008 10:02 PM Wow I am not even going to dignify Pants with an analysis. I was going to see Pineapple with my dad, but they had cops at the theatre and they weren't letting anyone under 17 in, even with a parent. (Reply to this) |

thereign writes: on Aug 09 2008 11:11 PM How could the cops not let anyone under 17 in, if they were WITH a parent? That's ILLEGAL, you know. (Reply to this) |

Austra1ia writes: on Aug 10 2008 08:53 AM Don't you only have to be 17 to see an R rated movie? I'll answer my own question, yes. You got hoaxed Sasquatch. Anyhoo i think Pineapple is going to be TDK, but not by much. It was a solid comedy and there was some good buzz surrounding it. (Reply to this) |

MartinTam writes: on Aug 10 2008 03:09 PM hopefully the Pineapple is going to take away some from Pineapple, then TDK can beat both (Reply to this) |

I hope I sh#t myself a pair of tiffany gold cufflinks, this weekend. ...at least I'm talking about something that's at least *theoretically* possible; I just have to swallow gold cufflinks.
