Ulmer (DETOUR, BLUEBEARD) combines intrigue, suspense and last minute escapes with a neo-realist flavor popular in Italian film at the time: stark, expressionistic sequences of life in the streets (it was filmed on location in Naples) provide a nice contrast to the glamorous escapades.
