Box Office Guru Wrapup: "Pirates" #1, "Knocked Up" Strong #2
Disney still claimed the most popular film in the land with "Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End" despite a drop that was sizable even by tentpole standards. Universal generated a stronger than expected debut for its new adult comedy "Knocked Up" which pushed its way into the runnerup spot sending Shrek the Third down to third in weekend number three.

Box Office Guru Wrapup: "Pirates" Captures $400M in Global Gold
Movie fans filled up multiplexes around the world giving "Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End" the largest global opening in box office history. In North America, the latest Johnny Depp adventure broke the record for the biggest Memorial Day weekend debut ever while still competing with fellow big-budget threequels "Shrek the Third" and "Spider-Man 3."

"Pirates 4" -- Hold the Gore (Verbinski)?
It might not come as a shock to hear that director Gore Verbinski probably wants to take a break from the "Pirates" some time soon. Word is he might be collaborating with "Bloom County" creator Berkeley Breathed on a CGI flick.

Early Plans for a "Pirates 4"?
Whenever a new sequel hits the horizon and everyone gets all excited ... we get hungry for (yes) extra sequels! Now it seems there's some early rumblings about a fourth chapter in the "Pirates of the Caribbean" series -- although I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for it to happen.

Remember when everyone wouldn't shut up about the box office "slump" in 2005? Well, that story is now a distant memory. The 2006 domestic box office was up 5.5% over 2005 ... and that's a lot of money.

First Pic of Keith Richards as Jack Sparrow Senior!
Johnny Depp used him as inspiration for "Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl." He was supposed to pop up in "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest," but didn't. And now he's guaranteed to appear in "Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End." We now have a picture to prove it!

Comic-Con 2006: "Pirates 3" Clip Spotted and Described
I'm as psyched as anyone for the next "Pirates of the Caribbean" movie, but I'm going to be really careful about avoiding spoilers until next May. And, so far, it doesn't look like it's going to be easy. For example, Disney showed a little "Pirates 3" footage at the Comic Con, and IGNFF was there to share the wealth.

Bill Nighy to Deliver High Seas Villainy in Both "Pirates" Sequels
FilmFocus spent some time at the UK premiere of "Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy," and editor Joe Uticihi was able to toss a few questions at character actor/fan favorite Bill Nighy ... and Bill delivered a pretty cool scoop indeed. Seems the actor has climbed aboard both of the "Pirates of the Caribbean" sequels, and he'll be playing a "very, very, very, very bad man" that goes by the name of Davey Jones.
