Day and Date for "Pirates 3"
According to Screen International, Disney has revealed that the second "Pirates" sequel, "Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End," will have a global day-and-date release next summer.
"We're going to open on the weekend of May 25 in every country around the world," said Walt Disney Motion Pictures Group president Mark Zoradi.
"It will be our widest release ever and it will be the first time that our company has done a literal day-and-date release," Zoradi added.
The first sequel, "Dead Man's Chest," became the third film ever after "Titanic" and "The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King" to gross more than $1 billion worldwide.

It's good to be king.

TheIceGhost writes: on Sep 13 2006 08:53 PM UNI-WIDE APPEAL So this will be the next ship Hollywood delves into. From what I can see it's not exactly the most popular franchise out there (in terms of fanbase...it's certainly no Star Wars; or I'd say even Firefly/Serenity when it comes to the real nitty gritty, almost sad how much the people are into it fanbase). So how is it generating such ridiculous and amazing numbers, easily besting the franchises I've mentioned as well as countless others? "UNI-WIDE APPEAL", or universal wide appeal..a movie that pretty much encompasses every genre. Pirate's plot is creative, but not jaw dropping creative (and sadly you could see the 'shocking twists' from DMC a mile away, diminishing it's plot even moreso), the characters are interesting enough to watch (although Johhny Depp's Jack Sparrow steals the show, and who pretty much owns whatever fanbase there is for these films(and rightfully so I'll add, he is awesome)), there's a love story, tons of action (it's about freakin' PIRATES afterall), and the special effects enchant and aide the story better than a lot of CGI fares do... ...but the numbers it's making would suggest this is the best film/franchise since, err (insert franchise you see fit for the title...I was going to say sliced bread, as in 'it's the best thing since sliced bread). Why? UNI-WIDE APPEAL....expect the corporations to try to milk this approach until it's dry...which will take a loong time. There's my kinda/sorta rant about 'Pirates'. I liked the first one, the second was meh, but the numbers just amaze, and almost annoy me. I mean, they aren't THAT great of movies, like I said, it's all the uni-wide appeal...ok lol...now I'm done, later. :) (Reply to this) |

homerschum writes: on Sep 14 2006 06:41 AM I am afraid that they won't stop after this Pirate. I don't want 5 screen movies and 3 straight-to-dvd releases. If this movie doesn't do a "cliffhanger" ending I will be happy and just keep my three movies and not go any further, unless they look good/good reviews. (Reply to this) |

Unless something dramatic trully happens at the third movie, such as Jack Sparrow really does die, or every single pirate is obliterated from the Earth, then I recon we'll be seeing Johnny Depp again in a number 4. But I also don't recon they'd do any more than 5 to be honest. Depp is smart and I know he'd get bored after time, Gore Verbinski won't want to get overlly bogged down, Orlando Bloom and Keira Knightly will start a serious phase to get their Oscars and then Pirates will unfrtunately sink. And Disney would be complete and utter fools to try a Pirates of the Caribbean movie without Depp. (Reply to this) |
