Early Plans for a "Pirates 4"?
by Scott Weinberg | April 04, 2007
Discuss Article
Whenever a new sequel hits the horizon and everyone gets all excited ... we get hungry for (yes) extra sequels! Now it seems there's some early rumblings about a fourth chapter in the "Pirates of the Caribbean" series -- although I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for it to happen.

Reliable sources cite some unnamed sources, but the bottom line is this: Somewhere deep in a hidden room at Disney, someone is taking Johnny Depp's affection for the Jack Sparrow character pretty seriously. The actor has claimed, more than once, that he'd be more than happy to keep playing the goofy pirate, and that's pretty much the only component you'd definitely NEED to keep the POTC boat afloat.

Allegedly there's also been conversations about Orlando Bloom bailing on the series, which would certainly free up some money for other things. Like I said, this isn't exactly concrete sequel news, but hey, everyone loves the "Pirates" flicks, so any drop of news should of course be shared and discussed.

second thoughts on 4
At first I was pretty excited at news of part 4 or even more movies. I definitely love the Pirates movies, but 4 movies may be just a bit overkill...that's a lot of Jack Sparrows mumbling and with Richards in part 3 I think it may be best if the mumbling ends at 3.

Then again I would pay to see the 4th if they do it and I am sure it would be #1, however Disney is much to classy to milk a franchise...

If they can keep the new idea's and excitment coming why stop!
As long as they still have Depp it's all good, who needs anyone else?

early on there were rumblings for a second trilogy and Depp has as much agreed to the idea. But they have to come up with some good ideas, otherwise it would be total crap. If they are going to approach a second set of movies then they should approach it as a second trilogy and not as one after one after one if you get my drift.

I'm all for it, who doesn't like POTC. as long as They keeps DEPP and come up with great concepts of pirates with super powers, not like the sea monsters in the second movie, I don't care I could turn into a franchise for all I care, but please guys at Disney work WORK. they don't call you genius for nothing, plus the sequel reached a billion, and I'm guessin the third could do even better. just dont screw it up and keep 'em comin.

Disney is too classy to milk a franchise? Where have you been? ...ever heard of Bambi II? Cinderella II? Cinderella III? Tarzan and Jane? The Little Mermaid II? The Little Mermaid III? Mulan II? Hercules: From Zero to Hero? The Lion King 1 1/2? The Lion King II: Simba's Pride? Pocahontas II? I hope that you were being sarcastic when you said that.

i think depp is a fantastic actor and all, but he can't carry a pirates movie by himself. besides, just how many sequels are they going to make? they already have a trilogy, that's enough!

although i have to say to wait until we see how the third one ends to judge whether or not to make the 4th (and 5th and 6th??), my first impression is just let it go disney.

Just a start a friggin' series called The Adventures of Jack Sparrow or something. He's the only character besides maybe Barbossa that anyone gives a damn about anyway. Yeah, give Jack his own series, like an Indiana Jones or James Bond for pirates.

the second POTC film was the worst movie I've ever seen. It's so bad, I'm still angry at having spent money to see it. I have lower hopes for the third film and negative hopes for a forth one.

You haven't seen many movies I take it.

It can't just be Johnny Depp, that's why the first one was better. He played second fiddle to the rest of the story, as opposed to the second where he, at times, was the entire focus.

I just hope the third one is better than the second. I'll reserve my thoughts of a fourth on until I know that they can even make a good third one. Now, if the second one was better....I might think different.

Everyone likes the pirate flicks?

Alll things considered, I'd rather them milk this franchise film than chance a bad Spiderman film.
Spiderman 3, if it is good, will beat the superhero movie curse (part 3s suck).
Why risk a lousy part 4?
Milk a movie made to make cash over milking a movie that has some real film making inspiration, that's how I see it. 10 Bad Transformers films that make Trillions can only support finer made work.

Depending on how 3 ends, I don't know that I'm interested in seeing more of this story line. I'd be much more interested in seeing how Jack became a pirate and his deal with Davy Jones...

i think the more ambiguous Sparrow's past is the better, prequels just undermine the first movie, and we'll know how it ends.

i'm soooooo excited for the 3rd pirates... but Disney should leave it on a high-note (unlikely).

These movies are entertaining, but if you have too many then the series will wear out its welcome. As much as I enjoy Jack Sparrow, I'm worried we may get tired of the character if Depp continues to play him again and again and again and again..............

If Depp wants to keep making them, then Disney would be fools to stop, doesn't mean they're going to be good, but they'd still be fools.
