NeoPets: The Movie?
According to Variety, Warner Bros. has hired upstart screenwriter Rob Lieber to turn the NeoPets sensation into a feature length film ... much like they did with those crazy Pokemon flicks a few years back. (Ugh, sorry for the reminder.)
"Warner Bros. Pictures has hired scribe Rob Lieber to pen the first CG-animated feature resulting from the studio's pactpact with popular kids Web site NeoPets.
Producers are keeping the concept and logline for the NeoPets project under tight wraps. Created in 1991, NeoPets is tracked by millions of kids who log on to take care of their own virtual pets, as well as follow storylines about other pets who populate Neopia.
Warners inked the deal with NeoPets before Viacom bought the Web site. NeoPets has the option to co-finance and co-produce any NeoPets pic with Warner."
--
You might not be too familiar with Mr. Lieber just yet, but you will be before too long. He has titles like "Hoot" and "Slay the Bully" in the production pipeline, and stuff called "Whitebread" and "The Greatest Escape" on the horizon.
So ... anyone have a guess on how "NeoPets" will be transated into a feature-length film?
Oh, and P.S.: Contrary to what the Variety article says, NeoPets is hardly just for kids. My thirty-something-year old sister loves her virtual kitty and visits her at least once a day.

Regardless of the fact that their ARE older fans, I suspect that the people who see this film will be eleven and under and mostly female. And, of course, their poor parents. (Reply to this) |

AttackofClones18 writes: on Feb 09 2006 09:33 PM Why would you even think about doing this, why would the IDEA of it even pop into your head. Why would the idea of the idea pop into your head. Ok, make the movie. I garuntee, NO ONE will see it. Not even 5 year olds who think the little Japanese ani-freaks are cute. MAYBE they would have made a LITTLE prophet had they made the effing movie 7 years ago...tards. (Reply to this) |

Mytharis writes: on Feb 13 2006 05:04 PM I dont even understand why this movie is being made. Neopets don't do much of anything. You just raise them and fight stuff eventually. Pokemon at least had half a plot. Sounds much too much like "Hey, people like this! Let's make some money!" (Reply to this) |

cocographics writes: on Nov 13 2006 07:14 PM Actually, neopets was created in 1999 And a neopets movie will be great if it has a great plot and some humor, like finding nemo. It is definatly not like pokemon. The staff are way more talented than that junk. I would like to actually see it myself when it comes out. And the movie will be in 3D! :o Beat that pokemon! XD (Reply to this) |

cocographics writes: on Nov 13 2006 07:16 PM plus, there's more to neopets besides feeding and battling. You can do plots (which are fantastic) and chat with other users. (Reply to this) |
