From director Adam Wingard, who has since become famous for his contributions to the V/H/S anthology films, Pop Skull is an interesting blend of horror, psychological thriller, and arthouse cinema that just never quite coalesces into something profound. It feels like one of the Slaughterd Vomit Dolls films with less gore and nastiness and more pretentiousness. Fascinating to watch at first, the film quickly becomes a tedious film from a director with great aspirations who hasn't quite harnessed them properly yet.
So far, the best looking, directed, acted and scored ultra low budget movie ($3,000) I've ever seen.
A slow-burning and wildly experimental with what a horror movie can be and takes the genre into relative terra ingognita. But it is perhaps best summarized as a depiction of a state of mind rather than a film.
