A curious blend of sarcastic and satirical humor with genuine concern for issues facing teens, POPULAR never lived up to its name in the ratings and was canceled after two seasons. POPULAR concerns two girls, Brooke, the well-liked blonde cheerleader, and Sam, her brunette opposite. The pair are thrust into each others lives, however, when their parents begin dating, making them near-stepsisters. The first eight episodes of its final season are collected here, and feature guest stars Peggy Lipton (of THE MOD SQUAD and TWIN PEAKS) and Michele Philips (a former singer in the pop group, THE MAMAS AND THE PAPAS.) The satirical show takes on a lot of high drama in these episodes, with stories that encompass alcoholism, leukemia, and of course, the fight for the title of Homecoming Queen. [More]

  • AVAILABLE AS PART OF A BOX SET ONLY. Disc One: 1. Timber -- The new school year begins as Brooke and Sam try to settle their parents' problems with the return of Kelly, Brooke's mother. Jane catches Mike kissing Kelly and she moves out with Sam. Bobbi Glass, the chemistry teacher, returns and threatens to cut down the school's 200-year-old "forever" tree while Lily and Sugar-Daddy have a "sit-in" to protest. 2. Baby Don't Do It -- Ms. Glass gives the class baby dolls that act like real babies to take care of for one week. Meanwhile, Emory's eighth-grade twin sisters seek out popularity tips from Nicole and Mary Cherry, who dive into their roles as teachers with gusto ... but soon the students surpass the teachers. 3. Citizen Shame -- Bobbi Glass bribes Nicole into pretending to be her daughter while her rich Uncle Tipton is in town. Carmen runs away from home due to family problems and stays with Sam and Jane at their hotel room. Brooke becomes friendly with the new SAT teacher, who takes her to lunch, gets drunk, and lands both of them in jail. 4. The Sweetest Taboo -- Nicole finds out Principal Krupps' biggest weakness and attempts to blackmail him into letting her back into the Glamazons. An African-American football player enrolls at school and Sam, who's writing an article about him for the school paper, finds herself becoming attracted to him. Josh's mom gets a job at school and starts dating the football coach. Disc Two: 5. Joe Loves Mary Cherry, 6. Style And Substance Abuse, 7. Ur-ine Trouble, 8. Misery Loathes Company.
