what a douche

Considering how well he raises funds for his own films, wouldn't his becoming full-time producer and stepping down from the Director's chair be a fair compromise? It's a shame to have to beat/bash/kill/maim/metaphorically destroy such an interesting and amusing creature as Uwe.

This guy's an idiot. "Once we Were Soldiers or Warriors or whatever." I wouldn't be surprised if he compiled this list from others' lists or from "supposed classics" lists without ever having seen any one of them. And if, in fact, he has seen them, it's a testament to how retarded he actually is...and an insult to these mostly masterful films ("Dances with Wolves" is severely overrated, as well as Kevin Costner).

uwe boll is hilarious. to tell you the truth, alone in the dark wasn't that bad. it was better than the scifi's channels original movies and better than sh*t like christmas with the kranks or are we there yet.
you people bash on him more than others mostly because of his rating on RT. but there have been so many god awful piece of crap movies that are way worse than his. just watch hostel.

uwe boll is a funny dude. i'll give him credit simply for his conviction and his campy humor appeal. Keep up the ridiculous work!

This man makes me feel like a battered wife who just can't stop going back to her abusive husband. I know I should break the cycle of watching his crappy movies and reading his barely-comprehensible comments (that "We Were Soldiers" line is effing priceless), but I guess I'm just a glutton for punishment. Upon first hearing about the petition, I was eager to sign it, but upon further contemplation, I absolutely refuse. The trainwrecks this guy unleashes on the world are just too bad to miss. I want him to continue making movies until he dies. I want to see a feature-length making of documentary of one of his films, if only to see this man "crafting" the ****ty end product. He is such a unique, creepy man that I want him to endure for decades. He kind of reminds me of Michael Scott from "The Office," a complete moron who has absolutely no idea of how moronic he really is. Long live Uwe.

Boll doesn't seem to understand the difference between "favorite" and "best" films. Michael Jordan is almost universally considered to be the best basketball player ever but does that mean he is everyone's favorite? No. Some films I really like aren't even good such as Boondock Saints and Plan 9 from Outer Space. Btw, wouldn't it have been hilarious and extremely ironic if Boll listed Plan 9 as one of his favorites?
May 13 - 11:06 PM
FWIW (not much) I don't think he was making any of it up. His point about which movies (or books) he likes now versus, say, fifteen years ago, suggests he was being honest. If he had been trying to impress, surely he would have included some Kurosawa or Bergman. Besides, he wasn't claiming these were the five greatest films, but that they were his five (current) favorites. Also, the point he made about the difference between making Apocalypse Now and We Were Soldiers rings true. As someone who is involved in making films, when he watches one, he doesn't see only the result, but also imagines what it was like creating it. This makes me wonder what he thinks of Fitzcarraldo and/or Burden of Dreams.
May 13 - 11:27 PM
This makes me hate boll even more. He is obviously a smart person but instead of contributing to hollywoods finest films, he keeps making bottom of the barrel ****. Uwe go to film school and learn how to direct.
May 13 - 11:32 PM
I'll go top three. After that, I don't really care to know much more about my own taste in movies, so why should I force it on other people?1. Stand By Me - the heart2. Truman Show - the brains3. Back to the Future - the balls
May 14 - 12:26 AM
I never believed Uwe is stupid or anything. He just doesn't have the talent, doesn''t have the feeling, how to direct well. He just can't put it together.
May 14 - 02:14 AM
I guess Uwe Boll is the Ed Wood of our times. Apparently, he knows what a good movie is, but hasn't the foggiest idea how to make one himself.
May 14 - 02:21 AM
Gabrielle *no way*
You cannot help but like Uwe Boll. He obviously has very good taste in movies which is not suprising - and no matter what you think if his movies, people still pay to go see them and lots of people actually enjoy them! Plus Uwe in the boxing ring against the critics is just classic! Good on him!
May 14 - 02:38 AM
I guess this is proof that good taste in movies doesn't necessarily produce good movies of your own.
Though that thing he said about Apocalypse Now in comparison to We Were Soldiers was a pretty cool way of looking at it.
May 14 - 03:35 AM
That list seemed like the generic "No, really, I have good taste in movies" kind of list. It was a bunch of, admittedly good, award winners that probably never really affected the compiler. He probably just thought they sounded good.
May 14 - 05:26 AM
Huh, I didn't think Uwe Boll even knew how to spell the word "movie".
