It's just right for the 9-year-old looking to while away a long afternoon in escapist storytelling.

Really? An exploding, worm infested demon-pig, men being decapitated and having their arms ripped off is "just right for the 9-year-old." Have you actually watched this amazing work of art?

"An exploding, worm infested demon-pig, men being decapitated and having their arms ripped off" Most 9 year old year old love that sort of thing, I think.

I was 11 when I first saw this. I loved it, but I also had nightmares about being chased by a giant boar afterwards.

Well, that's a back-handed compliment if ever I heard one. This movie IS PG-13 you know, and I doubt any 9 year old would be able to appreciate this film for all its depth and beauty.

Haha, either this review is meant for another movie, or this guy hasn't seen it.

Upon reading your full review it's even more clear that you've never seen this film. At least watch the movies you judge. Worst review I've ever read. You're a disgrace to your profession.

What do you mean? He described the plot accurately. Is it because he didn't mention the violence?

Mr. Booth described this movie as "escapist storytelling". Seeing as how Princess Mononoke is a solemn, personal, grounded meditation on balance, war, nature, and the relationships between them, I don't see how it could be described as escapist. Or for children looking for some afternoon escapism.
The director of Princess Mononoke, in an interview with Roger Ebert, noted that he knew young children would watch this movie. And that he would not shield them from the brutality of the rage depicted therein.
Yes, there is something wrong with Mr. Booth's review.

Dude, I'm seventeen and loved this intricate movie, maybe a nine year old will like the illustrations and get some of the story but I love the story and its message along with its in your face scenes

Jesus was that how I spoke a year ago, my I sound ridiculous, I didn't even give a decent explanation as to why I thought the movie was exceptional.

A little harsh, don't you think? Especially since he's correct, and didn't actually respond to his own assertion.

This is pretty much something you say when you want to insult something without the grounds to do so. Or you just didn't watch or learn the first thing about it and figured you had to compliment a "cartoon" since the other critics who saw it did.

Really dude? I'm pretty sure a 9yr old is either going to get bored during it's 2hr running time, or get nightmares from all the graphic (practically R-rated)violence in it. Great film though! Definitly Miyazaki's darkest.
