Watching "Prometheus" is like opening a deluxe gift box from Tiffany's to find a mug from the dollar store.
I imagine some of you film critics try to think of a clever metaphor to sum up the film in one sentence as you're watching the film.

Well said man
Jun 6 - 05:06 PM
you mad bro?
Jun 6 - 05:16 PM
for real. its got to be hard to enjoy a film when you have college film critique jargon and rhetoric swimming around in your head the whole time.
Jun 8 - 08:57 AM
My god Burr, that kind of review is like walking right up to Ridley Scott, spitting in his face, then hitting him full on in the head with a spiked medieval mace, and finally dumping his body into a stump grinder. Sci-Fi hater.

Jesus... You have a fierce imagination.
Jun 6 - 05:24 PM
That happened to me once.
Jun 6 - 07:54 PM
I HATE it when that happens!
Jun 7 - 07:51 AM
Let me guess. Despite Scott saying this wasn't a prequel to 'Alien' you went in thinking that it was and ended up disappointed so you blame the movie for that. Anybody that hasn't seen this movie yet, go in with an open mind and you won't be disappointed like this poor guy.
Jun 6 - 06:38 PM
This pretty much captures 90% of the reason some people dislike this movie. I'm a heavy community user at multiple Prometheus, Alien, and AVP sites.
Jun 6 - 09:05 PM
wow your so creative!!!!! hence why the film was wasted on someone like you
Jun 8 - 02:04 PM
I went in with an open mind and was severely disappointed.

The critics are being so ignorant in their reviews with this movie...
Its not supposed to be like alien!!
Jun 6 - 07:18 PM
Look at his track record of the films he likes. Nothing but artsy stuff. To each his own, but we're on completely different pages thankfully.
Jun 6 - 07:28 PM
C'mon - it's not 2001 (which while I love the movie, it is boring and pretentious) and it's not Alien and thank God it's not Aliens. I saw Alien the day it opened (just a couple of hours after my daughter was born - two thrillrides in one afternoon) and never mind what the fanboys think - it was never about the xenomorphs. It was about things beyond our imagination and understanding - everything was alien. Cameron, while turning in a great action flick, made it all about the xenomorphs and set the stage for the remaining 2 movies and the whole AvP mess.
I'm looking forward to Prometheus as a return to the alien, the unknown (despite some critics who think their job is to ruin the movie). After some so-so sci-fi in the last few years, I'd like to have my socks knocked off with otherworldly sites and concepts. I remember the heady days of Alien, Blade Runner, The Fly and The Thing when I walked out of the theater entertained...

Critics make me sick sometimes. I don't care if the movie failed to live up to your lofty expectations. All I want to know is if it is good enough to be worth the $10 dollar ticket price and three hours of my Friday night. All movies have problems. Were the problems substantial enough to warrant skipping the film? If, not, then it gets a positive review. Most of these reviews are filled with lines like, "Prometheus aspires to climb the scifi mountain and join the ranks of 2001 and Blade Runner but it remains stuck in the sandbox with Event Horizon and Mission to Mars." Seems to me that these critics have a bone to pick or are more concerned with writing clever derogatory statements than giving movies a fair chance.
Jun 6 - 07:56 PM
I don't think anyone but you could know what is worth your earned money.
For me personally, I'm such a fan of movies that even movies I hate are worth the admission price.
Jun 6 - 08:04 PM
I appreciate Ty's, and his Globe partner Wesley, movie reviews most of the time.
I can understand why fans would be unhappy with a negative review; we've been looking forward to this movie for an awfully long time. But based on all of his previous reviews, I don't think this review is an attempt to go against the grain, he just doesn't typically do that.
Hopefully I enjoy the movie more than he did.
Jun 6 - 08:03 PM
Event Horizon is dope.
Jun 6 - 10:02 PM
Damn man finally someone who sees a good movie for its worth classic collection
Jun 7 - 03:36 AM
Roger Ebert, one of the best reviews alive, gave it four stars. Ty Burr is an idiot giving it two stars. Two stars is for bad acting, bad direction, bad scripting, etc. I cannot believe that this director and this cast would produce a two star movie. If he had given it three stars I could understand that it wasn't his cup of tea. But two stars is a joke.
Jun 6 - 10:33 PM
I don't know if you read Roger regularly, but he pretty much reviews everything positively these days except for the throwaways.
Jun 8 - 12:47 PM
I looked at Roger's profile and in the last 100 films he reviewed, he gave at least 56 a rotten review.
He also seems to agree with the Tomatometer 77% of the time, so I'm not sure where all this agreeing is coming from.
If anything, he seems to dislike films I enjoy: The Raid: Redemption, Tower Heist, and Senna. 3 films he gave rotten reviews for but were certified fresh.
Jun 16 - 04:56 PM
"Two stars is for bad acting, bad direction, bad scripting, etc."
How about bad, bad, bad scripting? Or maybe it was bad editing. Something was really bad though.
Jun 18 - 08:25 AM
Bad acting? Check. Bad direction (editing)? Check. Bad scripting? Double-check. This movie had its redeeming points, but it was largely a sloppy mess.
Aug 20 - 04:21 AM
" Against the odds, "John Carter'' is itself pretty amazing - an epic pulp saga that slowly rises to the level of its best imitations and wins you over by degrees." This reviewers, opinion of John Carter, that is all.
Jun 7 - 03:25 AM
Butt-hurt fanboys detected. Butt-hurt fanboys detected!!! You guys are hilarious!
Jun 7 - 05:19 AM
"(Isn't it ironic that a story taking place 30 years before the first "Alien" appears to have superior technology? Discuss.)"
Prometheus is a hi-tech research vessel.
Nostromo was just a giant cargo ship.
We have the same discrepancies in our own real universe - Giant Air Buses and run-down school buses. It's not "irony," it's just a matter of the function of each vehicle.
Jun 7 - 07:07 AM
isn't it obvious that you are nitpicking a movie that is a prequel to a movie that came out over 30 yrs ago? maybe you didn't realize that this is a reboot with sequels to follow and who knows, a reboot of the original alien. don't EVER be a movie critic. there isn't a shortage of stupid ones yet
Jun 7 - 10:06 AM
I was quoting Ty Burr's review, and giving my answer to his nitpicking question.
Jun 7 - 10:08 AM
my apologies, I don't want to read the full reviews due to spoilers.
Jun 7 - 10:15 PM
No problem, Tom. I should have clarified that I was referring to what I thought was a rather snarky thing that Burr asked in his review.
Jun 8 - 08:02 AM
I'd listen to you Ty Burr, But you actually liked Dark Shadows. NOPE
