It's not necessarily a bad movie, it's just half of a great one. And that's almost more disappointing.
I don't understand how anyone can have something negative to say about Prometheus, I haven't seen a better written, directed or filmed movie in years... the story is perfect and it meshes excellently with the Alien Franchise while leaving room for more Prometheus sequels to bridge the gap... why are people having a hard time grasping this film and what it tried to do? It should be at 85% or 90% not a paltry 73%
Jun 13 - 12:45 AM
I aggree Antony... But the general population is pretty dumb and as we all know has incredibly bad taste. This movie will go down as a classic like Alien and BR before it. I for one cannot wait for the sequel. I can see why it got some shitty reviews, because of how it ended. If there turns out to NOT be a sequel id have to say my opinion of it would be a bit diminished tho. I took this as the first chapter of a 6 or 7 part story. Alien 1 and the finding of the SJ ship being like chapter 3 or even 4. Then there are the AVP fans who got dissed, but who cares AVP was hollywood remix garbage.
Jun 13 - 10:43 AM
Ben Foster turning into a super strength zombie. Radically awful age make up on Weyland. No devotion to developing a bond between the audience and the "extras" that get nixed in the 2nd half. Copy and Paste dialogue between the crew which created a phony sense of comradery. Milburn's inexplicable desire to befriend a man eating leech when there was no indication why he might be interested in such a thing..
This film wasn't as good as Alien or Aliens. The fx were stellar. The direction it points is awesome. Short one Jar Jar Binks, however, this film was almost as disappointing as the first installment of the revival of Star Wars. I gave it a generous 3 1/2 out of 5 stars partially for the reasons I've listed above.
Jun 13 - 02:56 PM
I disagree Anthony; while I thought it was well filmed and directed, the script was very weak.
Jun 14 - 01:30 AM
Why was the script weak? Did you read it, or just make assumptions based on what you saw in the movie? The director ultimately has most of the control of a movie.
Jul 3 - 09:18 AM
Dude. Then you haven't seen a lot of movies, outside of the Transformers franchise. This movie was just terrible.
Jun 14 - 04:50 PM
awesome reply lol
Jun 17 - 07:27 AM
Geez man, I dunno how you can say all this stuff. If you tell me you haven't seen INCEPTION, AVENGERS, THE DARK KNIGHT, THE ARTIST, THE SECRET OF THEIR EYES, then I will understand your comment "I haven't seen a better written, directed or filmed movie in years". And if that's the case, then please tell me- What the crap have you been seeing in theaters in the last few years? This isn't the worst movie ever by any means, but the best? not even close. It has more plot holes than an 80's crime movie. I am even at awe that it has 73%. I honestly thought, after leaving the theater, that it was probably hanging by a thread to a fresh score
Jun 17 - 07:41 AM
"I haven't seen a better written, directed or filmed movie in years"
Check out "You Don't Mess with the Zohan". It'll blow your mind.

Jun 18 - 10:35 PM
Nice reply! I'm sure the fanboys would tell you that you weren't deep enought to understand it either! I mean really... this movie? deep?? It was pretty in 3d though.
Jun 19 - 10:01 PM
Pretty in 3D!? Well, I guess if you're (unlike myself) cramming the yellow goo covered popcorn down your cake hole and make the mistake of touching your glasses.
Seriously, most movies, no matter how bad, I had leaving to take a pee, this one, I wouldn't minded at any point taking a fat long dump, while reading a magazine, I wouldn't have missed anything.
Jun 24 - 07:09 PM
antony you are an idiot
Jun 28 - 10:27 AM
Did you actually watch the movie?
This film was clearly trying to tell everyone how stupid they are for believing mankind is so special. Cinema bitch slap to everyone's face.
It was beautiful.
Jun 13 - 08:22 AM
I liked the insinuation that they decided to destroy mankind because of the start-up of Christianity. At least that is what my hypothesis is. The whole two-thousand year thing just cant be a coincidence. Man stopped worshiping ancient gods (engineers) and started worshiping one god, a made up god. They were pissed just like in the mytho Prometheus. Or you can consider them reaching LV the "fire" or even the engineers as the "Prometheus" with humans as the "fire". So many different ways to interpret it, which i think is WHY its good. Let's just hope it doesn't turn out to be something stupid or 'just because they could' lol.
Jun 13 - 10:48 AM
so where do all the other religions fit in with your pretentious hypothesis?
Jun 14 - 02:20 AM
Dude, she's not going to fuck you.
Jun 14 - 06:47 PM
The Engineers and Xenomorphs are from the Planet Proteus. And Engineers are known to collect Xenomorph Eggs. Hence, this movie doesn't make sense, in the creation of a Xenomorphs, since XENOMORPHS have been around LONGER than humanity.
And, adding this scientology bullshit really didn't help the story. It took away from it...created too many plotholes, and contradicted with the Alien movies.
Those that like/Love this movie, dont know anything about ALIEN. that's what I've noticed so far. Funny how Ridley scott return and claims this is LV-223...and not LV-426. Bs, story.
Jun 15 - 05:02 AM
My argument would be that none of that material is canon; Ridley Scott was the creator of Alien, and none of what you're saying there about the Engineers or the xenomorphs comes from him. "Aliens" for that matter doesn't come from Scott, as it was James Cameron's creation and went in the direction we're all familiar with. If this storyline were following Cameron's vison, the way that the two movies following Aliens did, I would agree that it contradicts everything before it, but it doesn't. Prometheus is Ridley Scott taking back the mythology he laid the foundation for and expanding it his way.
Jun 23 - 03:39 PM
I saw it opening weekend to a 1/3 full theatre. When the credits rolled, some folks behind me actually laughed. Another couple that followed me out said, "We should have saw Madagascar."
I'm not lying. If the movie was an essay I was grading.. it would get a C for many more reasons than just letting down a strong amount of Alien fans.
Jun 13 - 02:59 PM
it didn't go that far in the theater I went to, but unfortunately people were laughing at the end. my girlfriend included. if it wasn't because I consider Ridley Scott a master-filmmaker, I probably would have joined in :S
Jun 17 - 07:45 AM
This movie was terrible. The ideas? Most critics of the film, myself included, aren't angry at or don't understand the "ideas" in this film. It was just so poorly written and executed. The motivations for the characters often left you scratching your head. It was so dumb, and silly, just baaaaad.
Jun 14 - 04:53 PM
Black Goo destroys DNA? How can two human make Squid/Octopus (Facehugger) thing? Why didn't Dr. Shaw tell everyone else there was a fachugger on the ship after the operation? Why couldn't Shaw's BF just take of the helmet instead of wanting to get burned? (Freakin stupid, by the way!) LOL ....WHO THE HELL PILED UP THE ENGINEERS in the movie?
And people think this movie is great? It has plot holes, more plot holes than answered questions. This almost as bad as Alien Resurrection....only difference between the two is that this movie visually looks beautiful. And that LOST Writer butchered the story...this movie did nothing but make fans like myself of Alien movies and Dark horse Comics angry.
Jun 15 - 05:07 AM
It's a freaking fantasy movie! The black goo can do whatever the creators want, how can you say that's a plot hole? They didn't explain exactly what it is. A plot hole would be if they explained it and then broke their internal logic.
As for the squid thing, I don't quite follow you. Are you claiming that it shouldn't have gotten so big from just two humans? If so you're being a fool, the old alien movies had the exact same logic. The aliens burst from the chest of a human, and then strangely became MASSIVE in size in a very short amount of time without seemingly eating enough to justify their growth. It's a recurring theme in the films. Perhaps there is some mechanism involved which they haven't explained. But again this is fantasy, hence they can make their own rules, it's not a plot hole unless they break their internal logic.
Jul 3 - 09:32 AM
Honestly. Best review on the film I've came across. Way to go, Anders! /subscribed.
Jun 13 - 03:05 PM
Your blurb alone summed it all up. I couldn't put a finger on the ambivalence I left the theater with. Its like, I would have been fine had it fallen flat on its face. But it kills me to imagine what it could have been.
Jun 14 - 12:26 AM
A Mess... an utter mess... Characters ignoring obvious hazards, giving themselves medical treatment after knocking the piss out of 2 members of the crew, only to comepletely ignore that fact... 1 scene later.... Being obviously spooked by the dead bodies in the hall and yet... Playing with the FIRST sign of life you see? Need I go on?
Jun 14 - 04:36 AM
Thank you. All this praise, I feel like I',m the only one pointing at this film and yelling, "The Emporer is NAKED!"
What a terrible movie. Take away the special effects, and what little good acting there is and you have yourself a SCI channel Saturday night movie.
Jun 14 - 04:55 PM
Sorry, no. Megashark vs Crocasaurus had finer acting, a better script, and made more sense than this garbage film.
Jun 14 - 10:11 PM
LOL @ DAvid's comment. Agreed!
Jun 15 - 05:09 AM
I stand corrected kind sir.
Jun 24 - 07:13 PM
I will never trust the tamatometer again. I just saw that Terminator: Salvation has a score of 33% while this junk has 74%. What the hell... (as Hudson once said). Salvation was by no means perfect sci-fi, but it made a hell of a lot more sense than this.
Jun 19 - 05:22 AM
My feeling about the movie is the same as the OP's. WIth a tiny amount of additional attention to details and the script, this could have been a great movie. However, it was smart people doing dumb things on a big set - with a few laugh-out-loud unintentionally funny moments. Even Homer Simpson would know to run diagonal to a giant rolling donut.
Jun 17 - 06:23 AM
This is EXACTLY how I felt Anders when I left the theater ( while running in a STRAIGHT LINE trying to escape a giant rolling tire )
Jun 17 - 06:46 AM
I am a black man and this movie made me want to sterotype MYSELF and yell the screen " Dont touch that!" Dont run in a straight line from that giant metal rolling wheel!"
"Didnt you JUST perform your own C-section?!"
"OF COURSE he's alive and yes he's her dad!"
Jun 17 - 06:54 AM
Very true. You've summed it up perfectly.
Jun 17 - 07:29 AM
Rodrigue Gig Pariseau
good review and great point.....my plus minus of this show, is that yes, it has epic visual imagery--some of the best i've seen, but where its lacking, is in its focus....for starters, you could take out meredith vickers as a character, and yet you still would have a movie...skip the father-daughter b.s., let us get to know the crew who eventually make the ultimate sacrifice, .....then, why we need to hear about shaw's dreams, her father story,...its so superfluous... and how she could actually be attached to her boyfriend, when he seems like a despicable person, but not around her, didn't make sense....AMBITIOUS MOVIE, Ridley! I just believe he should have kept it "on the tracks" a bit more
Jun 18 - 02:46 PM
If I were the Precursor in this movie I would have starterd killing the earthlings as well,.They acted very irresponsible the whole movie,.I hope this isnt the reason we havent gotten back to the Moon or beyond,.Getting hammered in space???,.Not likely on such an important mission one would think
Jun 24 - 03:58 PM
I have been a huge fan of the Alien franchise since I was 10 (Alien Resurrection aside). I really really wanted to be blown away by this. It just didn't happen. It had all of the pieces, it was visually VERY striking. It just lacked a tension and atmosphere that Alien had. I definitely agree that it was a half of a good movie. it got to the end, and I felt like I wanted the movie to go on for another hour to finish telling the story, and actually lead up to Alien. How did they get from LV-223 to LV-426/Acheron?? How did the vases turn into the eggs on 426 with a completely different creature inside? Why did we only get a short one sided conversation with the Engineers? It just came across as a 2 hour movie that lead to more questions than it did to answers, and needs another hour or so to properly resolve.
Jun 24 - 08:03 PM
I totally agree with your post. As an extreme alien fan myself, I wanted to like it but I couldn't. I was a bit disappointed and even though it has been a month since I have seen it, I still can't figure out weather or not I loved it or hated it. Prometheus saddened me because it had so much potential, but it fell short. I also wanted at least 45 more minutes added to the film, just enough to clear up some character/plot issues.
Jul 5 - 06:04 PM
This is most probably the worst movie Ive seen in the last 5 years. The story is boring and pointless. You basically fall asleep in your chair. Terrible
Jun 25 - 03:43 AM
You guys may not realize a co-writer for the film was also the creator of 'Lost.'
Any familiar issues there..?
Jul 12 - 06:56 AM
Because.. for me, it answers all the questions as to why this one pretty much stunk.
Jul 12 - 06:57 AM
